Atom / Atom.com - Marketplace (formerly Squadhelp)

Hey Folks,

I've just started using squadhelp.com to list some of my brandable. So far I have 76 domains listed, there is no fee to list. I've had some decent action so far in the way of interested buyers but no sales as of yet. I've only been with them for 1 week now.

A bit of a summary review of SquadHelp:

PROS
  • No Listing fee
  • No Logo design fee
  • Ability to submit your names to end users holding naming contests
  • Ability to chat directly or send a message directly to end users.
  • Stats of your marketplace domains are shown in the marketplace dashboard.
  • Their customer service and support has been great, 24hr a day chat.
  • Ability to increase or decrease the list price of your domains or to show a discount. You can decrease or increase the price yourself by $200. If you want to lower more, you can contact support.
  • End users can shortlist your domains before they make a decision on which they want to purchase. The number of shortlists is shown in you marketplace dashboard.
  • When you submit your names you get to set the price you wish to get. Because their commissions are high I recommend listing at a higher price to offset the commission costs.
  • Their landing pages are fairly basic but they work. Because the marketplace is fairly new, I'm sure we will see style improvements in the future.
  • One thing I really like is they accept multiple extensions. I have listed .co and .io along with .com
  • Each seller gets a direct link to their marketplace portfolio, HERES MY PORTFOLIO. It is handy if your trying to p[promote your portfolio through social media.
  • I like that their marketplace doesn't have tens of thousands domain listings like BB. They are fairly strict on the domains they accept to list and so this helps keep the number of domains in the marketplace down and gets your listings more exposure.
CONS
  • Their commissions are very high, depending on the domain name they are usually between 30% and 35%. However, there are no listing fees, no logo design fees, so in the end their commission is very similar to brand buckets.
  • Their logos are not top quality, in fact I requested to have some of my logos remade.
  • I think they have a big backlog of logos to design, the wait time for logo design has been around 1 week, but your names are still listed while the logos are being designed.
  • After your names are accepted you need to agree to their commission rate, at this point you also need to apply your own keywords, descriptions etc. I found this was very time consuming.

Thanks. It would be SO much easier if it could be done from within our existing account.
Would a feature in Atom that lets you assign custom tags or categories to your domains, and then automatically surfaces those tags/categories prominently on your WLM website, meet your needs? If that solution fits your needs, perhaps the @Atom.com team can accommodate it.

I listed a short 6 letter 2 word .ai as standard plus and when I search for the words under .ai names, the name does not appear, so how are buyers supposed to find the name? @Atom

YES. In fact, I don't care if it's White Label or Atom branded. I would just like a way to display all of my names within a particular category on one single page or website. Then I can take a different domain name and dedicate it to that page or website by redirecting that domain to the page or website for that particular category. Does that make sense?

@Dane I'd love to see a feature like this (described in my previous posting), too.

Specifically, enable the ability to assign categories to individual domains (with bulk feature, as well). These custom categories could then be prominently displayed on the WLM main page, and in other WLM (search) sections. All this should be combined with a simple URL structure on the WLM site.

Hmmm. At this point I was planning on sticking with Atom... but I really like some of these features/options. Might have to give it a try.

I am in the exact same boat. I just took so much time to get names and everything set up at Atom, but as my post a few back can show, I'm a bit upset with my experience thus far.

I don't want to speak on it too much in this thread out of respect for them, but paying 30% commission when I could just put my landers up for 0% and list them at all the markets for free is seeming more and more appealing. As of now I have only received 3 actual visits to my domains from the search path on Atom. Which I don't understand how I can have so many views and shortlists if I'm not being found in the search path, which is where the endusers will be shopping..

So just a thought and by no means a critique on anyones methods but...

Is it possible some of us play around with settings and listings and layouts and categories etc too much?

It literally takes 30 seconds to add a name at Atom. I have everything set to the same lander, let AI do all the descriptions, root words, categories, logos, everything. I check the odd name once on a while to make sure it's working OK and that's it. I leave it.

So are some users doing too much fiddling? Or should I be doing more?

I absolutely LOVE this "Start a conversation" button! I wish Atom had this!!

it is so much better than "Make offer". The term make offer (alongside BIN is horrible). But contact owner or "start conversation" is much better (and still allows contact for an offer without un-anchoring the expectations)

Hadn't thought about that but you're right that is a great option. @Atom.com

Yes, @Atom.com, could we get this as an option instead of Make Offer? And could you place it next to the BIN price instead of down below in a separate box?

Housekeeping note to all.

The @Atom handle has been dormant since 2005.

The official account is @Atom.com.

Happy domaining.

if I had $1 for every time the AI writes the word "exudes" in its automated descriptions....

I think it takes a bit for their search cache to catch up with newly added domains. When did you add them? If today, I'd wait to see if you are still having issues in a day or two.

It was listed May 21

Not sure if/where this was discussed in the first 358 pages...

Deni here. All names will be included in the WLM if you create one. This is like your custom store where you can showcase your portfolio. Unfortunately, there's no option to not include some names; however, there's an option to feature names so you can select which ones will go to the top.

Is there a workaround for this?

Thanks for sharing this - we completely understand how frustrating the experience must have been.

At the moment, our policy is to keep domains available for sale until payment is actually received. This approach was adopted based on feedback from several sellers who were concerned about their domains being tied up due to incomplete or delayed payments, especially given the high number of false-positive wire transfer notifications we see.

That said, we recognize the need to improve the experience for legitimate buyers. Weโ€™re actively exploring better ways to strike that balance, including clearer communication during the payment process and the option to place a small upfront deposit to temporarily hold a domain. Our goal is to reduce friction for buyers while still protecting sellers from stalled or uncertain transactions

@Atom.com I definitely like the fact that our domains remain visible for sale while a buyer is in the process of getting their funding in order. That protects sellers from just anyone wanting to essentially remove a domain from the market for who knows how long.

I've got one domain right now that I accepted an offer on, it remains listed, which I like, and if the buyer falls through then no harm no foul, others can see the domain listed.

However........ from the public's standpoint, could it be possible to identify domains such as this with a banner which indicates there is an active offer on the domain and "if you provide your email and offer we'll add it. In the event the current offer falls through we'll contact you" sort of indicaton?

I think that would be innovative in the domain market world, it would also help sellers. It would be akin to wanting to purchase a home but its under contract but the buyer accepts backup offers. I've even seen it in commercial real-estate.

Would be very cool for sellers. It could be a toggle set by each seller, perhaps on certain names if you want to get that granular.

Just an idea....
