Ask for appraisal if I'm not selling within the next year or few years?

Hi all,

I just bought quite a few domains (without hyphens / with hyphens / different tld's (com / net / us / eu))

I'm not looking to sell/auction them very fast because I think they will not be very valuable at this moment. I'm still curious about how valuable you would think they could be in the next 5 to 10 years though. But I am a bit apprehencive about it getting an appraisal here right now. Not exactly sure why though.

Would you advice against getting an appraisal here already? What negative influence could it produce if I where to ask an appraisal for domains I am not looking to sell in the next 5 - 10 years?

Looking forward to your feedback. Thanks in advance.

Cheers

The internet is forever. A post 5 years ago will still turn up in Google.
Disguise your domain by using (for example), domainname (dot) com, or some other thing to break it up. If you're really paranoid, use a graphic.

Still, I have to wonder, what use is an appraisal today for a name you don't plan to sell for 5 or more years? Appraisals are widely inaccurate for prices today - nobody can predict prices in 5 years, much less 10. For all we know, domaining could be a quaint trend of the ancient past in 10 years.

Hi Domainace,

Thank you for your response.

I understand this. But what would be the negative side effect of this? Maybe I'm a bit dense, but why would it matter that my post with said domains would show up? If you would like to elaborate on that, please do. Thank you.

I hear you loud and clear. Domainnames could indeed be an ancient technique by then. I guess I'm just curious whether my 'investment' might be a good one (if domainnames are still used then, the same way as now) in the opinion of people that operate in the field of domainname selling, etc. Just looking for some reassurance I guess. ;)

Thank you in advance again for any feedback.

I wouldn't worry about appraisal section opinions having a negative effect on future sales prices. The value of a domain is always going to be entirely in the eye of the buyers.

If someone thinks whatever.com is worth paying $x for to develop or that they can resell it, the opinions of random domainers on some forum isn't really going to matter.

And that works both ways. I have seen domains sell for a lot more than they were appraised for here, and at least one domain that couldn't meet a 99cent minimum bid that had multiple $x,xxx appraisals.

I have seen the same thing.. Also, Many domains on SEDO, etc sell for prices $XXXX, that wouldn't sell for $5 dollars here on Namepros... It seems so hit or miss sometimes...
