Moniker's no-refund policy

Like most of us here I'm sure, I have over the years migrated away from Moniker, for a very wide variety of reasons. But, naturally, I still have a few domains there, and today one of them renewed 10 days early (I must have accidentally left auto-renew on).

I really don't care to spend $9.99 renewing it, so I sent them an email asking for a refund. Their response?

Thank you for contacting Moniker Support.

Unfortunately the domain has already been renewed.

And therefore a refund is no longer possible.

Should you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Best regards,

Pascal E*******

Your Team @ Moniker.com

What the hell?! For some people this could easily have been a $1,000 or $10,000 lesson in turning off auto-renew. I highly advise that anyone with domains there log in and check to ensure that their auto-renew settings are properly set!

I don't think anyone needs another reason to not use them. Just like 1&1.

To be fair I'm not sure you would have had a different experience with other registrars. Maybe you should ask yourself why you still have names there. I suppose it's procrastination.

Wrong! None of these registrars, to name a few, have blanket "No refund" policies:

GoDaddy
Uniregistry
Namecheap
Name.com
Dynadot

To not allow any refunds ever is pretty messed up. Doesn't surprise me, considering we're talking about a dying registrar, but it's something to definitely be aware of for anyone with domains there.

Thank you kindly for your pretentious diagnosis, doc, but it's irrelevant to the topic at hand. I already acknowledged that I must have accidentally left auto-renew on (maybe it defaults to on, I don't know). I made a $9.99 mistake. I've accepted this, so proceeding to make assumptions about why I made said mistake is unnecessary and off topic.

For what it's worth (since you seem so interested), I was not currently planning to keep the few domains I have left at Moniker, so, obviously, I wasn't going to transfer them out like the rest. I was going to let them expire naturally. My mistake was in overlooking that ONE domain had auto-renew turned on. Nothing more, nothing less. I'm sure this is a mistake that the Great and Powerful Kate would never have made, but us peons can't all be as perfect as you, ya know...
