Domain transfer from GoDaddy to Moniker

I have a .com that is up for renewal @ Godaddy in about 25 days or so. I was wanting to transfer it to Moniker as my account with them have been adjusted to the cheaper pricing for NP members which is $6.95 for a .com. I have never transfered domains before so this would be my 1st time.

1. I was wondering, was that the same price of $6.95 for transfers to Moniker or only for new registrations?

2. Do I initiate the transfer from Moniker?

3. Currently I have private registration with Godaddy. Do I have to go to DomainsbyProxy & disable it 1st?

4. I currently have the domain set to auto-renew with Godaddy, do I have to cancel this?

5. Do I have to cancel the private registration with Godaddy otherwise I'll get charged for it?

Same price - transfers, new, renewals (.coms)

2. Do I initiate the transfer from Moniker?
Get the transfer code from Godaddy first. They may call it something else, log in to your member section and poke around until you find it. Seems like they email it to you. Then log into to Moniker, click transfer and put in the name and the code.

3. Currently I have private registration with Godaddy. Do I have to go to DomainsbyProxy & disable it 1st?
Dunnno, wouldn't hurt and if the transfer is blocked by it then you are out of time. Moniker verifies by emailing the registered owner. You have to click the link in the email before the transfer even starts. I have had emails make it through proxies, but you never know.

4. I currently have the domain set to auto-renew with Godaddy, do I have to cancel this?
Have to, no. But better safe than sorry. Godaddy (and others) renew a certain time before expiration. And they do not want you to move the domain.

5. Do I have to cancel the private registration with Godaddy otherwise I'll get charged for it?
All those silly things they get you to buy, including the stuff so you can get $1.99 domains and whatever, will renew unless you cancel it. You don't think they really are selling domains that they have to pay $6.25 for $1.99 without a catch???

Good luck with it, You will like Moniker, perhaps except their DNS system.
