How do you guys keep good track of all your domains. if they all where at the same registrar it woiuldnt be much of a problem.

Has anybody started a domain tracking website where one could keep track and sort ones websites. If not that's a pretty hot idea for some techie person to take on.

Or maybe I would just have to do a boring excel spread sheet. I'd prefer an online tracking thing thought.

MAYBE Namepros could add that.. RJ..? whaddayall think.

What do you need to be included in this domain tracking list? Just the list of domains and expirations? It would be much easier to do that in Excel.

I would need

name

tld

exp.

price(s)

where parked

where listed

revenue avg - performance notes

and notes about inquiries etc

so yeah pretty simple to do a spreadsheet like that but if it was online it would always be there for me... I guess it would have to be a high security site

http://domainportfolio.domainforums.com/

That's a free domain portfolio script. It isn't exactly what you are looking for, but it lets you add your domains in categories and by registrar. Then, other people can search through them and even make offers. It lets you manage all the offers and everything right from your admin panel. Every is stored in a database, so you can go to it and do your own "select whatever from domains" query to select only a certain TLD or registrar. It doesn't help much for parked, listed, or revenue though. I wrote a script that goes through each domain, does a Whois on it for the nameservers, and then can figure out where it is parked at. I dumped that info in Excel, though. I guess you could modify the Domain Portfolio table to add an extra column for that info and export it to that.

Edit:
There is this script, too, http://www.hotwebtools.com/DNscript/intro.php which manages your domain portfolio, but I really haven't used it much to figure out what all it does.

Hi there,

I am actually developing a piece of software that will pretty much do what you need. It keeps track of all your domains, where you bought them, how much you paid, expiry dates, income from parking or website, time spent on developing and advertising etc. It also stores all your sales so can produce a decent accounting summary. Another section stores people you have sold domains to in the past and uses keyword searches to match new domains you buy with people that have bought from you before and might be interested.
There are also several plug ins in development, one of the more interesting one alows you to list your domains as 'public' this then uploaded them to a central server, these then become visible to other users of the software. Another one takes domain sales from the central server ( these are entered from other sites and anyone using the software that has marked their domains as ' public' ) and generates statistics of average sale prices based on TLD's / Keywords / Sites sold through etc.

Hopefully beta testing will start early next year.

I plan to release it as freeware then just ask for a donation if you find the software usefull.

Wishing you all the best

Richard

I will check it out as soon, do any of these script allow to store data about names that one is watching or planning to register as far you know?

I am pretty sure both of the scripts I posted don't have that feature, but Domain Portfolio allows you change the status of a domain to sold so you can't get any more offers on it. You could always store the domain like you own it, but set it to sold.

I downloaded that DomainWatchDog thing, but it keeps popping up saying that it only allows for 5 domain in the unregistered version and that I must delete the remaining domains.

A couple hours ago, I recieved a beta version of a new program that only deals with domains you want to buy/backorder. So far, it's pretty good. It lets you check a bunch of things about the domain and even has a built in appraisal thing that lets you define how much things are worth. On a list of 20 thousand, it completed 5% after 4 and a half hours....I would like it to be quicker, but whatever.

I'm working on an online management tool. Was sidelined for a while, while i worked on other sites, but it sounds like there is some demand for it, so i will step up the pace.

If anyone wants to help test when the beta version becomes available, please PM me.

I would love to BETA test But I would prefer an online management tool.

THE WHAT I PAID FOR IS A GREAT ADDITION. Man it is easy to forget minor details like that.. :)

THIS IS GREAT - YES YOU ARE ALL RIGHT. THERE SEEM TO BE A HUGE DEMAND FOR THIS.

I often get frustrated with managing the domains. I for sure could use a good tool. A separate to do list...

It could be a low annual fee or free with ads on your page etc. If it was tied up to a domain community like this -- even better.

Get to work boys and girls...

IMO, unless you have a 1000+ portfolio, much easier to simply use phpmyadmin. just make a few tables.. one for domains, one for categories, one for revenues, one for enquiries, and link 'em up, and you're good to go. the front end browsing and administration can easily be done via phpmyadmin itself.....

else, way too easy to slap down some php code for this. max 4 hours (without fancy graphics etc)

whats more importing into phpmyadmin is a breeze.... it accepts csv input. similarly if you want to download the entire database or some table (or even the result set for a query), you can export the results into an xml or a csv format.

the only logic I see in using a special software for this is if you want to do stuff like: send yourself automated email reminders that xyz domain is about to expire in x number of days and stuff like that ..... but even for that a simple cron script will work...

You could use phpMyAdmin, but why even go through all that when Excel can do just about everything and most people know it better anyway. I've used Access before, but even that was still more work than Excel. The software/online scripts I use I like because it fills things out for you. I type in MyDomain.com and it tells me the expiration date, registrar, where it's parked and the nameservers. If you just want to type in everything, you could actually use Notepad.

Of course anything could be done manually but a program that automate the most of the task would be much more convenient.
I have just few domains, under100, I use a phpform , but it is useless to me if I have no time to update the data(and regularly update the backup.
Recently I have sold some domain, and let expire some , well I had neither the time and the patience to update it. If I would have had a script that have done that for me I would be more happy.

I would like to help Birdman, since I have a discrete experience as program tester, not a professional level but years practice, unlucky I am so busy that I would not promise anything I couldn't mantain.
If for you it is not a problem I can help occasionally.Best of luck!
