The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.

So your blog is the reason I got like 76 replies to my wanted ad in less than 12 hours? So much for my vacation.

    Name Pros Domains Wanted section...

You get 100 replies but lucky if a single response is what you are seeking AND within the budget you have stated.

    • If you set absolutely zero expectations +
    • willing to just sift through tons of mostly horrible names (depends on type of names you asked for) +
    • you do mention that if there's no response within 48 hours to consider that you're not interested (because you can't be answering every single message) +
    • you are willing to deal with the occasional backlash for not liking any name on a submitted list,
then you may find a decent name once in a very blue moon and keep your sanity. If you receive tons of notifications and you put any expectation whats-so-ever before you check the submitted list, you will find yourself hitting your head on the wall for comfort :)

Never tried it based on what I've seen, the responses. Maybe if it was modded better. Seems like a Spam fest of unrelated names sometimes.

    :-o

It's super quick to look at what people WANT to buy. It takes me a few seconds to see if I have a domain that someone else is looking for.

Thanks for the response. I haven't had much success POSTING in the domain wanted section but I am referring to BROWSING through post in the wanted section to see if you have domains other people are looking for. That is where I have been able to negotiate some deals.

I get that, I personally think it's still awesome to see what people are looking for and if you have a match to what they are looking for, then comes negotiating for a price =)

    Hello,

Please keep in mind that the Domains Wanted section can only be modded to the extent that it is reported. Unfortunately, things are rarely reported in that section, but we take swift action on every valid report.

Fortunately, Domains Wanted is by far the most popular domain request tool in our industry, so there will always be good and bad aspects to it, but as others have said, it's an opportunity for those who are willing to put in the work to sift. We've seen plenty of success stories thanks to the section.

Sometimes, you have to take the good with the bad when things are open to anyone and everyone to use. We hope to add more features to it in the future to help cut down on rule violations automatically, but that's a distant project at the moment. Until then, please report issues so we can take action. ;)

    Thanks for your help,

    That's a good move Eric..

One of the features which i think is something needs to be amended or modified is that many of the posts in the section are open since very long without any transaction being made by the requestor. It would be better if such posts have a set timeframe to be kept open and if the requestor has still not been able to find what they are looking for then they can reopen the post rather continuing the same post for longtime without making any deals.

If you closely monitor, many of such posts are open since long and its quite surprising that not a single domains have been purchased within 3-6 months even though the criterion which the requestor has set is very general. Having said so, i dont mean the Requestor should be bounded or forced to buy what they have reqested but in general the approach should be more professional and practical so that it does not appear to be a scam or a fraud.

So in my suggestion the section needs to be made more transparent in order to safeguard the interest of the domain senders and to maintain the trust.

    Thanks

I would also like to see some sort of restriction or waiting period for new members who want to post in the section. I frequently see new members, often who have signed up the same day, posting for a name wanted. These new members often haven't bothered to read the rules, and then the mods have to follow up.

I would not likely ever respond to one of these new member requests anyway, as I'm not about to enter into any transaction with someone who has just joined and has no trader rating or feedback.

You are right JB, and we intend to step up the modding in that forum.

But let me mention this, we often rely on, and appreciate members using the report button.
Having the OP reporting each non complying post in their own thread wouldn't be as efficient as our more experienced members reporting any they happen to see while viewing the thread.

It takes a village folks, and since many of the non complying posts come from newer members, the sooner we can teach them the proper procedures, the sooner we can cut down on the violations.
There are also habitual violators and we would appreciate the members reporting them as well, since many times by the time we get there (because it goes fast and furious, and we cant check each thread every few minutes) the thread is either overrun or just over.

So, as Eric mentioned, we need your help by reporting it.
Commenting in the thread will not get us there faster than clicking the button.

So, just to recap, did I mention the Report Button? :)

Thanks for your continued cooperation in helping to keep NamePros the #1 domaining forum in the world.

    Peace,
    Kenny

It doesn't take a village, it takes somebody stepping up and handling it. There should be no such thing as habitual violators. That's the problem. There is some past thread on this somewhere. There is another thread, I think it was about chat or something and what do you do about people who continually violate the rules. The answer is this - warn, temp ban, perm ban. Then you wouldn't have habitual violator issues, and the Domains Wanted section would clean up some, making it more useful for everybody. Why should somebody waste their time continually reporting the same people if the people in charge don't take care of it.

No, you don't have to take the bad. You're in charge, it's a choice you make. Clean it up, it will get used more. More traffic, more sales to that section. I don't use it because of your habitual violator problems.

Pay attention? Yes & No. I have an alert setup whenever a new post gets added. Otherwise, I don't go to it.

As I mentioned, we intend to step up, but we would still appreciate some help from the members.

    Edit:
Using Jays thread again as an example,
    https://www.namepros.com/threads/com-domains-wanted.1055771/page-2
(sorry Jay) we see that all but one so far are "DM sent".
Unless Jay reports the violations we have no way of knowing whether they comply or not.
This is where the habitual violators are hidden from us.
They are habitual because they do not get reported every time.

    Peace,
    Kenny

I've sold some domains there for a decent amount of money a year ago. I don't think I'll see that in awhile again by looking at a few of the domainers budgets and what they want.

I'll still continue to watch the domains wanted section, just to get a few laughs....:xf.wink:

They say they have a total budget of $5000 but $10-$15 per domain. Some times i avoided replying and some times with my own price. But i will get replies like "Dude this is a reseller platform why did you answer if you have some outlandish budget my budget was clear" . I know their budget is clear but my domains are little expensive. But i throw the ball to see if they are really interested in good domains or they want just cheap domains.

It is very clear they want good domains for cheap $$.

The name wanted section could probably be done away with.

Honestly, with all due respect a simple php script could solve this problem but Name Pros staff has not implemented such a thing for YEARS although requested many times.

E.g. IF user wants .COM up to $1000, max 2 words, max 10 chats... this/then/that...

You set fields for the seller to enter the data, Freelancer.com ... $50 investment.

This is smart and what we do. You are simply looking at what someone wants and providing it. Simple supply and demand.

I do understand some people who post have unrealistic budgets etc but from time to time you will find some legit buyers/investors.

Well said Eric, if it was easy everyone would do it =-D so far we have seen success from simply following the simplicity of Supply and Demand. I agree there is a lot of junk but from time to time you will find some really good potential buyers to match with some of your domains.

    Looking forward to those features!

Not at all, but considering we have some of the best tech minds in the world working at NamePros, I don't think we need to argue this point. We know what we're doing, and it's not simple at all. We also have higher priority items on our development schedule, but we'll get to it in the future.

    Thanks for your thoughts,
If anyone else would like to watch the forum for new requests, you can do so by following these instructions:
    1. Visit this link: https://www.namepros.com/forums/domain-names-wanted.10/watch
    2. Place a check mark next to "Email"
    3. Click "Watch Forum"
Then you'll be notified each time there is a new request for domains in that section.

    Hope that helps,

Sounds good; but having done nothing about it for nearly 4 years should put the arguement in the frontline and not in the backburner. I'll leave it at that --- thank you.
