Are there extra fees for winning a pre-release?

Sometimes i see a domain auctioned for pre-release on Namejet and nobody bids on it. Then when it's re-auctioned pending delete then everyone will bid on it. Wouldn't it be better to bid on it during pre-release to retain the old age of the domain? Am i missing something here or are there extra fees for winning a pre-release?

No, there are no extra fees. If somebody is not bidding on the domain during pre-release and then backorders at namejet or snapnames, the only possible explanation is that they didn't see the domain during pre-release. There is less competition during pre-release and the domain will maintain it's age. So it makes perfect sense to get it during pre-release.

Pre-release and pending delete are very different. Pre-release is a guaranteed auction. The domain can not be auctioned anywhere else. It is already in the auction system and doesn't need to be caught.

Pending deletes need to be caught. They can end up anywhere and not necessarily in one of the places where you backordered them.

Still many domainers don't understand what pre-release is. The term pre-release is confusing. It was introduced by namejet when they opened. A better term would be pre-drop.

It could be that the software most use only do expired domains, not pre-release.

I know this is the case for me. Is there any software that searches the info on pre-release

Such things as

Domain age
Backlinks
PR

Any hints appreciated? ;)

ok thanks for the replies.... i just found it odd that some good names don't get snatched during pre-release, and then when it goes to pending delete, everyone just jumps on it. I thought people were avoiding some fee or something LOL.

if you offer the same domain here at NP, it could be no one is even offering you a dollar, then when the same domain is at namejet, it will fetch a lot more money. Very ironic indeed.
