Country codes and extensions?

Depends on your definition of good and it depends on the extension you are looking at.

Some good .info reappear ever few days after they drop.

If you check out some of the country codes you can find some decent names. If you are developing the name yourself a good keyword and the country code can work for you.

If you mean for reg fee, the basic answer is no.

Imagine asking a gold miner where to find gold... He may tell you how to dig, but he ain't gonna tell you where because that's his own spot.

Start digging through Namepros, marketplace threads, available names threads, etc. Consider other languages and alternates to .com if that is a fit for you.

If you are new to this as your join date suggests, then you've got a lot to learn but this is a great place to do it.

there is a vast number of single words to register if you are not bothered about the extension, but then what is your measurable of 'good'. development? traffic? clickthru? extension? what is it you want?

There still some 1 word domain left but it's like finding a needle in a hay stack. Some words are still available in some country codes as thebutler mentioned. But if you're thinking a dot com domain 1 word good luck. Oh by the way when you find such a place please let me know so I can help you search for a good domain name.

Depends what you call a good 1-word domain.

Good generics are long gone under .com and major extensions.
I usually do not recommend obscure TLDs, at least not for mass registration.
There are still a lot of dictionary domains available but they are barely usable.
That's the reason why they are still available or dropped.
Examples:
kingpiece.com
kirkify.com
longwool.com
misbeliefs.com
monocalcium.com
morigerous.com
negotiatory.com
nighttides.com
nimbose.com
noachic.com
omissible.com
orbeds.com
oriolidae.com
ratableness.com
reoffend.com
rugous.com
semihigh.com
shacklys.com
siliculas.com
sinarquistas.com
siruelas.com
sismotherapy.com
skylarkers.com
skyplast.com
slavepens.com
slavikite.com
slenderishs.com
smotheration.com
snarlingly.com
snoeking.com
soapsuddys.com
soleplates.com
solicitrixs.com
sonneting.com
sonoriferouslys.com
sourdines.com
spadicose.com
spalacidae.com
spanglets.com
sparths.com
speciestalers.com
spekboom.com
etc ;)

Some ccTLDs like .de .co.uk etc are good investments.
In Europe in particular ccTLDs are very popular. However knowledge of the local market is desirable (English keywords are not always best).

There very few or almost nill 1 word domains available. I found a one word dictionary word. its yaaow and i registered it( www.yaaow.com )
Now i realised that its only worth regg fee. So even if some are left/dropped they are only worth reg fee. All the best on your search.

Ebay/no reserve

Sometimes deals can be had on "no reserve" ebay auctions.

I sell there a lot myself and often take a chance on a low start bid/no reserve auction. It often pays off in enticing new bids and the price eventually goes up to fair market value. However, in some random cases there are too few bidders and this strategy backfires and I have to let a name or set of names go for a very good price.

you can find many uncommon 1 word, so is it better to find a 2-word common term or
1-word uncommon word?

Hi, 99.9% are taken at least in the .com tld. I posted a list of about a 100 available single dictionary names on my site recently, including a few .coms.
