Hi all,

I would like to know if in fact NoFollow Backlinks are really Backlinks and if they have any actual SEO value other then referral traffic that may click on them?

For instance, if I trade or buy a PR-7 backlink to my site and it has a NoFollow tag, is it still going to help my pagerank and my keywords the same as if it had a DoFollow tag?

Should I insist my backlinks tha are DoFollow or should I not even worry about it?

I want to make sure these backlinks help my keywords in the searps more then just what referral traffic may click on that backlink, if you know what I mean.

Thanks everyone.

Nofollowed links do not count towards toolbar page rank.

BUT ...

All the links to a site, regardless of whether or not they're followed, make up your "linking profile." A natural linking profile (someone puts up a site and lets the links develop organically) will contain a mixture of nofollowed and followed links.

If you have nothing but dofollow links, especially if you have a lot of them, it's a red flag to the search engines that your links were not acquired through normal means, and can get your site penalized.

Short answer: don't worry about it. And don't obsess over page rank. Focus on getting good traffic and converting it - much better use of your time than chasing green pixels.

You should insist on a do follow tag as it will help you increase your rankings as well as page rank.
No follow link can help you get good ranking and they can make your link bilding efforts look natural but if they can not boost your page rank. Since you are spending dollars just insist on do follow attribute on the links.

no follow links gives only Traffic and reputation that is ok for new website but not for increasing ranking on search engines.

You need to build quality links that works for your. Don't buy a hug amount of links in short time period because it will look like un-natural for search engines.

so be Ethical

Google introduce/encourage link buyers and users to use NoFollow tag to protect both of the site from manipulation of PR & ranking which are very prone to penalty and ban.

Go get them! You should build nofollow links as well, as they are part of a website organic or natural link profile. Your link profile should be diverse, that said most of your links should of course be editorial ones.

they are considered backlinks but not considered by Google in computing your page ranks.

No follow links are not worth less. They are also back links. They will not help to improve the page rank of the page. But the visitors to your site remain unaffected.Almost 90% blogs are no follow.Still the blog posting is one of the important method of the Off page optimization for getting traffic to your site.

No follow links are not real backlinks they can just get you visitors directly from the site where your link is present.

It counts to be included in a PR 7 authority site really in my opinion. But if you ask PR juices from it, it won't give you any drop. But it will sure naturally give you a substantial traffic gain which is also another way of developing your popularity both for the users and SEs since you'll be included as frequently visited link.

enlytend gave the best answer, but I would add that nofollow links also seem to provide some guidance to the search engines even if they do not add "juice." For example, I see some text links as giving clues to the search engines on what a page is about, even if the links are nofollow.
