analysis Are domain sales dead this year? My frustrating experience with failed outbound for Vaktsina.com (the transliterated version of vaccine.com)

Morning,

How are your domain sales doing this year?

I’ve been actively trying to sell several domains by reaching out to companies that currently use inferior or longer versions. I offered them a premium .com upgrade for as low as $100, but had no takers.
Recently, I also pitched Vaktsina.com to hundreds of vaccine russian manufacturers. Not a single bite - not even from AstraZeneca, which is still operating in russia despite the sanctions. By the way, PepsiCo and Mars (US companies) are still active in russia.

This leads me to believe that domaining today is largely a waste of time. It feels like it generates nothing but renewal fees. I'm starting to think most reported high-value sales (except maybe outliers like ai.com) are either money laundering or viral marketing.

I suspect many sales reports are fake, designed to trick us into spending money on keeping our portfolios alive. Who are these people supposedly making these sales? They aren't on the forums, they aren't on social media - they don’t seem to exist. It all feels like a setup.

Has anyone actually closed an outbound deal recently, or are we just fueling the registries and dropcatch?

Outbound has never been easy.

On top of that, you might be choosing the wrong domains.

I am not sure why companies worth billions would need the example domain you gave, or how you would even be able to get in contact with decision makers.

The vast majority of domain sales are via auctions and inbound sales, not outbound.

Outbound is a tough business.

Because they are sitting on crap, unreadable names (except sputnikvaccine.com).
Vaktsina.com is actually a five-figure domain for the local market.

This feels like bait..

But in the case you're serious, there's an entire thread dedicated to reported sales on this forum and all over X my feed is domain sales.

I also know many in the industry and in private discords that report sales daily/weekly that aren't even the ones you see reported.

Domains are very very much alive, but it comes down to quality of your domains and patience.

The examples you gave don't generate any benefit for the enduser, which is the only way to outbound succesfully, which as Brad mentioned is a very tough model. If you're going to go with the outbound model you need geo domains almost exclusively unless you have or pay top dollar for a domain registered in several extensions which have obvious upgrade candidates.

That said it's not all sunshine and rainbows and it took me years to turn a profit - domaining is not for everyone.

Hi

as said nicely above…
but hard truth is
your names aren’t premium, if they were then someone else would have acquired them before you.

improper spelling of words with extra “s” is not impressive

imo…..

In most cases, domains that remain unsold are often those of lower quality. For portfolio optimization, outbound outreach can be considered just before deciding to drop a domain. Additionally, pre-release auction activity can serve as a useful signal. If your domain fails to attract bids above $100, it may indicate limited market demand and, potentially, lower quality. If someone bids over $100 or more, you can extend it. (Learning process?)

if you are of the few that can do outbound, you might as well focus on names that have a chance. Outbound rarely works, but if you insist on doing it, make sure its names you can reach owners, like small one or two man businesses and even geo can work. Still rare to make a sale but at least you have a chance.

Get some geo names like Los Angeles plumber and message plumbers there. Price it under 500 and make sure the sale goes through godaddy, something they trust. If you do this consistently every day for a many months, figure 1000 outbounds a day, different names and markets, all good geo names, you will see sales. Probably better things to spend your time outbounding, but if you insist on domains, this might work.

Hi,

The vaccine domain has been sold.

Now I need to sell ContactLensess.com
I've done a massive outbound campaign.
