Along with all the other "scams" -sorry - business opportunities, I think you will find that many of the "application pending" were made just a few days before the start of the landrush. :$:

This obviously removes them from the pot for a while pending either securing the name(s) or going for them when they are re released. :$: :$:

Do a little search on these names, particulary ll, ln, lll, and see what you come up with - there are some great company names that just happen to fit the name applied for - I would think that most of them only exist on paper. :td:

Perhaps I am just being paranoid as my 249 pre reg applications returned 3 run of the mill names. :'(

.eu seems as if it was a big scam. Not sure who was involved in the scam. But 1 thing is for sure, the fact that there is a bigger registration count with .eu than .us means nothing, because many of the .us names are registered by end-users and we have demand from end-users. While these .eu names, seems as almost all were bought strictly for profit, and nothing else.

So whether or not there is more than a million registered .eu names, there are very little number of end-users, and probably will be a very little amount for a while. A long while.

And this will obviously hurt the TLD, along with the price, the fact that you have to be located in a certain area of the world, and the fact that every other domain you will go to will have a PPC page.

You are talking rubbish. You are probably annoyed because you can't get one because you are not an EU preson/company/trademark. Or that you got none of your pre-registrations ( I happen to be in that situation myself ).

How do you think that there are less end users for .EU names than there are for .com, .net, .us??? There are 50,540,124 active .com's... are you saying there are any end users for those and not for the one million .EU names registered today??

There are just as many companies/end users for all domain extensions... you can't base you're view on whether the .EU will be "hurt" by so many registrations based on some crazy idea that there are less end users or it just being a scam.

Simple..
1. Only European companies wish to have .eu domains while companies all over the world go for GTLDs.
2. Only European companies / individuals are PERMITTED to register .eu names. This too narrows down the possible end users.

.EU can never come close to .com. Why would an american company which doesnt have anything to do with Europe, call itself .eu ? It'd rather go for .us or .com!

THe "application pending" means that several compaines have submitted an application during the sunrise period and there is still a dispute over who should have the name.

Yes narrowed down to about 450 million users. You cannot claim that the potential of the tld is limited because of the restrictions in .eu posession. There are more than 450 million residents in EU.
I do realise though that the fact that 95% of domains are regged by speculators, meaning that this will skyrocket their price to the moon, discoureging the end users from buying a name. This will definately hurt the value of the tld.

It doesn't even matter that there is a restriction or not. Almost everybody is registering .eu names for profit, that hurts the TLD.

2 or 3 of my GoDaddy pre-registrations read Application Pending in the Whois, while the rest are all registered to an individual, yet GoDaddy are yet to realise and offer me a refund.

Luke,
I could not agree more
It figures all the people complaining from the US are mad they did not get their domain(s) I would like to know how many you tried to reg, CFGURU?? and why did you try and reg them?? for profit ?? or for end use?? You are a part of the so called problem then.

And you did not try to reg any for profit??? dont you have many domains forsale with other extensions (.com/.net/.us ect) on this forum?? Look in the mirror.....

The topic at hand here...APPLICATION PENDING...

A few of the domains I had registered for my partner and I, which were AVAILABLE when I pre-registered...are now APPLICATION PENDING. The date they were supposedly applied for? Why, April the 6th or a few days before. Hmmmm....

One word domains...here's a few we tried for:

hairy.eu
wills.eu
invitations.eu among others...

funny...both the last two have PENDING applications from PARKNET BV....

(We did manage to get one pre-registered name...and we have 5 others that were hand registered.)

Here's one we had pre:

Hairstyles.eu

Info found:

Domain Name hairstyles
Applied 06/04/2006 22:43:19.840
Prior Right Registered National Trademark
Prior Right Country Netherlands
Prior Right on h&ai&rstyles

Ownder Listed as: FFGTH

What's with the h&ai&rstyles in the "Prior right" thing? Is that a way to fool the system?

FFGTH also has an application pending for another one we pre'd:

BridalShop.eu

Makes us wonder....coincidence on four names out of only 40 or so that we pre'd went to similar customers.....haven't even checked ALL of them for simulars...just noticed this tonight though hairstyles and brides do go together. Not sure about wills and invitations though. :|

Read somerwhere else that chamberofcommerce.eu was regged, or attempted to be regged by someone who apparently had a trademark on the name:

C&H&A&M&B&E&R&O&F&C&O&M&M&E&R&C&E

Kinda like B&Q but taken to a ridiculous extreme.

Having so many .eu domains locked up for profit will hurt the uptake of .eu domains, no doubt about it. A parked page with ads on it is not the same as a website.

The .eu landgrab fiasco has done the domain a lot of damage it could take years to get over.
