Anyone running their own ad script on mini-sites?

I can no longer run adsense. So I need some other options.

Here is what I was thinking, some type of script like adsense that puts text or banner ads that I can change from a central location. I have like 1000 mini-sites that would need ads, etc...

I could probably setup ads via niches, and then either sell direct, test affiliates, promote other sites, etc.. I wouldn't have to make changes to any of the sites, just the ad server.

Someone said phpAds but it would be really tough to configure what I am trying to accomplish.

Anyone have any ideas? Systems?

I use OpenX, which is what phpAds has grown into, on a couple hundred domains (I hate parking services), and out of all the systems I've tried over the last 10 years, it's my favorite.

There is a bit of a learning curve with it, but once you get into it it's not really that much more complex than AdSense and channels, and it gives you a nice central location to update or change ads as you like across 1 or all of your sites.

There's also a built-in marketplace with OpenX, which means if you don't have ads to run for a specific site or niche, you can sell your advertising real-estate to the highest bidders. I haven't used that feature yet, but plan to explore it myself soon.

Whatever you go with, it's going to be a lot of work I imagine based on the number of sites you need to update, so if it were me I'd look at what has the best scalability and is the most sustainable to avoid haveing to go through the same thing again.

Good luck with it.

Hi! I'm also on the smae situation: more than 100 domains (all of them related to my new business or to future ones) but in the meanwhile I would like to get some income from them. With openx you have to manually sell ads (openmarket is poor at least for non-English websites), so do you recommend anything else?

I have been doing a little research about OpenX. I am not an expert, but NO, you do not have to sell ads to the open market this is just another option if you want.

You can simply place the openx code on your sites and then change out ads for whatever you want within the control panel. Doesn't even really have to be ads, can even links or promotions for your other sites.
