I saw that DNJournal reported a Sedo sale of VN99.com for 10K? Any idea why the sale on this domain? I admit I am missing something as a Google search turned up nothing...

Thanks for any insight anyone has..

I Googled VN 99 and a Vietnamese (VN) talk tv station with 99 in it's domain name pulled up.There is also a Club 99 in Vietnam. But the WhoIs as of today shows a Chinese registrant.

Short and memorable.

Just check the list of other names he owns and you will see its all about letter/number combinations, the owner (from Macau) also owns 1200 other names in similar formats (NNLL, LLNN, LLLNNN, NNNLLL etc) so its about the lucky Chinese numbers

Thanks for that info, gilescoley! (But I still like my Vietnamese tv station theory; maybe I have generated a lead for the seller!:))

thats really interesting as you see a lot of these short letter/number domains that would appear too have little value but obviously not. i guess you have to think worldwide

"The value is in the eye of the beholder"

i see what you're saying but how do you find the beholder? if theres only one person out there who values your domain and you don't know who they are , how do you get them to see it? i'm not being funny , am new to all this so interested thats all thanks

social connections, building relationships with seasoned domainers and getting your name out there as someone who is an active member of this online society of investors.
Twitter connection building for one; this can be a gold mine if you invest the time into networking, focus on following any and every person whom is on twitter for the sole purpose of domain networking(also but not limited to: website dev's, logo maker's, registrars etc)

If a tree falls in the woods , without a soul for it to be heard, there was surely a noise but no one noticed.

Recommended sites to set your domain(s) on for exposure to begin with:
1.) Sedo.com - If you havn't already, i suggest making a sedo account and adding your domain(s) to build a profile. This will allow someone seeking for your domain to actually find it by search if it is of the exact nature to which the user is seeking.
2.)Godaddy.com - Sign up for a year of their auction membership and put your domain(s) on their auction system.
3.)Afternic.com - ^ same as above
4.)4.cn - Largest chinese domain selling market place. This is a little more difficult if you're not Chinese/speak it and/or don't know how to have pages translated. But again, this returns back to the whole networking with domainers theory. Surely you will make a contact whom deals with Brokering to Chinese sellers, which is a shoe-in to that market.

------------------------
This is all opinionated of course, but from what I have learned, I felt this would be a good starting template to start from to get your domain(s) out into the online world of domainers.

here to revive this thread. VN99.com points now to a Chinese online Casino called Venetian 99 therefore VN99.com is perfect. plus in chinese "All good things come in pairs" therefor 99. and 9 is the second luckiest if not equal to or luckier than 8.

So yea. So the whole V is a no no when it comes to "chinese premiums" isn't exactly true 100% of the time. maybe 90% and 10% is all thee other quirky possibilities. oh and it's short.

so good luck to all.

I found that many numerics redfirect to online casinos so if they own say 100 numerics all linking to main site more traffic is generated by posting their short numerics.

Its a marketing tool to increase traffic by buying up and using these type of domains is a major reason they are buying them up IMO!

I've noticed the same thing.
