This is my buddy Bandit (aka My Shadow) and he has melanoma cancer in his mouth.
I found him digging in my trash can 9 years ago this Christmas and he has been spoiled every since.

He has had cancer now for about 5 months and it has got worse.
We have had one surgery already to remove the first large tumor in his mouth of the top of his tongue and now there is a much bigger one under his tongue.

We are seeing the vet again today to see about another surgery.

We have him on the following,

Palladia
B17 Amygdalin
CBC Oil
Turmeric
Vitamin C
Milk Thistle
And an all natural home cooked diet.

Nothing is working :xf.frown:

Has anyone had any luck with cancer with their dogs?

Why do dogs have to get all the illnesses we humans get? I hate it! :xf.frown:

This here use to be 4 of my kids, all spoiled with love and a life of soft beds and plenty of carpet to lay on :xf.grin:

My precious white female pit I had since she was 8 weeks old died at 10 years old of cancer 2 years ago :xf.cry:
My Siberian Husky I found when she darted out in front of my car I had for 7 years and she died 2 1/2 years ago from Lupus :xf.cry:
My Black Lab who I found when I also almost ran him over in 10 years ago and is still here (y)

These videos also have my 17 year old baby girl :xf.love:, she was a Pit/Dingo she had dementia the last year of her life :xf.frown:

I am desperate at this stage so any advice is greatly appreciated.
Thank you all

humans and dogs get something like cancer because the foods we eat today are no longer natural.. they are overprocessed.. to the point of no longer ressembling anything our bodies can recognize... then because we did this to foods, we add artificial falvor and color so at least it passes the test of our taste buds... and goes in... else we'd spit it right out that's how disgusting it is.. but make no mistake, it is POISON. and you might as well just eat dirt, or wood chips or paper, add some spices to it.. in fact, eating dirt is probably healthier than thee foods.

same goes for what we feed our beloved animal friends. their so called dried foods are nothing more than overheated and overprocesed poison. which of course, just like humans, their bodies are able to deal with for a while, cause they have no choice, but after some years.. for some soon than later, humans or dogs, the effects pile up.. and we call them cancer or some other thing.

its hard to combat it once it happens. but its definitely worth thinking about and taking into consideration for poeple or animals you love.. before they get to this stage.

this is hard to accept and digest for a truth... but so is watching our beloved friends perish.

all the best.

Sorry to hear... that sucks.
I assume you’re seeing a veterinary oncologist? If not, find one and get a consult. A specialist will be more up to date on new treatment options.
Do you have any places that do radiosurgery? Expensive, but might be an option for a difficult oral tumor.
Has your vet talked to you about the canine melanoma vaccine? Oncept? Is that an option?

I don’t know if anyone really has “luck” with canine cancer -:it (or a complication) always gets them eventually. Best outcome I had was a dog diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma (plasma cell cancer) at 9 1/2 and given about 18 mos - he lived another 5+ years and was technically in remission when I lost him. This summer I lost one of. My girls to Leiomyosarcoma - had surgery to remove a huge tumor from her intestine in March 2017, but there was distant metastasis. Did a few rounds of chemo, she did well for a while but it was back in her liver by the following January. We got a good year out of everything. Better than the odds for what she had but not great.

Watch out for holistic vets, there’s a lot of snake oil being sold to desperate people.

Thanks enlytend

We have not seen the oncologist with him but we did with our last dog with cancer and they are very expensive but we are doing the same treatment (Palladia) with him as we did with her.

It is supposed to cut off the blood flow to the tumors, it worked last time but doesn't seem to be working this time.

Money is beginning to become a problem since sales have slowed towards the end of the year and we have spent several thousand already and now looking at a second sugary plus labs and his meds like Palladia is running about $1k-$2k a month

Look into the melanoma vaccine - it’s a targeted treatment and I believe is effective for mid stages of melanoma.
I hear ya on the expense. Do you have care credit?

Thanks buddy!

Yep, all used up already.
I will definitely ask the vet today about melanoma vaccine.
I am ordering more CBD oil right now for him.

Also, if you don’t have insurance you might look into this. https://eusoh.com/
I have no personal experience with it and don’t know anyone using it but it’s an interesting idea. May be tough to find a group that accepts pre-existing conditions though...

Good luck and let us know what your vet says.

My mantra when dealing with cancer and other chronic diseases in mine has always been “Not today and not without a fight.” Feel free to borrow it if it helps.

Ugh on the radiosurgery cost :(. You don’t want to know what regular surgery + several days in the hospital cost for removing an intestinal tumor (that had burst). Right there with you in the “I maxed out my carecredit” club.

On the outside chance that pricing may be less through some providers, any of these near you? https://petcureoncology.com/locations/

If you’re want I can ask around to see if anyone I know has other financial assistance options. I’m active in dog sports and training and know a lot of people who’ve been where you are.

Good mantra,
I appreciate anything you can find out.

The closest location is up north in San Jose :xf.frown:
The oncologist we use is about 60 miles from us.
We will probably go back to them.

Hi to all, and my heart breaks for all going through this. I went through this with my German Shepherd, Cooper. He had osteosarcoma and lasted only 2 months from diagnosis.

I did A LOT of desperate research during that time and I came across something called Rick Simpson oil (RSO) I wish I had had the chance to try.

I found the video recipe online, but the main ingredient was not so easy to obtain, at least not for me.

Lennco, I pray for Bandit’s healing, and for you. Hang in there.

Oh just remembered! Another thing to look into: I'm Yunity. Valid clinical research (U of PA) showed amazing results for hemangiosarcoma, a lot of oncologists swear by it. BUT:
  • Research what cancers it's been shown to be effective against. All cancers are different. Ask your oncologist.
  • I started my dog on it and took her off because she had seizures. I am absolutely certain it did not CAUSE them and there are NO reports of this, or for that matter ANY serious side effects, but for her it may have been a trigger.
  • It won't remove a big mass, it could slow it from coming back.
PM me if you and your oncologist think its worth trying - it;s pricey and I think I still have some.

Huge master list of organizations that provide financial and other assistance for pets. Just updated this month.
http://www.dogingtonpost.com/need-help-with-vet-bills-or-pet-food-there-are-resources-available/

I think I know a couple of people who got grants for vet care from one of these, will let you know if I can find out which ones they applied to.

My sweet Cooper
Thanks vwblubug and I am so, so sorry about Cooper :xf.frown:
He was Beautiful and Handsome!
I love his ears and how tall they stand, very regal.

The last 2 days have been rough, On Thursday the doctor was really hesitant to want to do surgery the next day cause she said he lost too much weight, but we scheduled surgery anyway for Friday.
Once I got him to the vet on Friday for surgery the said his labs came back and they were not good :xf.frown:
They told me his Kidney proteins were way too high and not safe to operate.

So no surgery, and his tumor under his tongue is so Huge!
So when I got back from the vet I started to research more about RSO.
I knew about RSO a few months ago but I didn't think I could do it.
I am glad vwblubug reminded me about it.
I decided I am going to do it!

Since yesterday I have acquired just about everything I need to make it, I'm a little scared but what the hell, its for my little buddy and he is worth it :xf.grin:

Once I start giving it to him it will take about 3-4 weeks before I can see any improvement so I will keep every one updated. It supposed to help his cancer and his kidneys.

Wish me and Bandit luck (y)

Thanks, I will.
It really is a simple process, just have to be very careful
But the benefits are huge.
You can find positive stories all over the net.

This is it,

Also be careful how much you give him. THC poisoning in dogs is a “thing.” I’m personally wary of internet accounts unless they’re in peer reviewed scientific journals, but that’s me.

Best of luck to you!

It might be hard to accept, but most large breed dogs only get to live around 10 to 12 years, although processed and packaged foods contribute to many diseases and problems for pets, but some of it has to do with breeding practices that are profit motivated which have resulted in more and more problems for pets, if there where a few hundred different breeds before, now they number in the thousands and many of the new breeds are prone to disease, although even pure bred pets are sometimes genetically prone to problems like for example German Shepherds and some of the other popular large breed dogs who usually develop lower back and rear leg problems when they are over five years old.

Sorry to hear about your dog, but at this point there might not be much that can be done specially if the caner keeps coming back, as much as you love your dog and want to do your best to save him, but unfortunaly your dog might not be able to comprehend that and if you put him through multiple procedures and surgeries he might wonder why you who he considers to be his best buddy are now tormenting him and causing him pain. You don't want his last memory of you to be someone who caused him pain, so at some point it might be best to end all surgeries and medications (except for pain meds) and let him go through the end stage of life naturally and peacefully. Show him all the love you can and treat him to the best meals that you can afford, keeping him comfortable and free of pain probably is the best thing that you can do at this point, although everyone has to come to this conclusion on their own depending on their circumstances.
