It seems that 3D is going to be the the next must have technology, according to the big brands, they are all launching 3D TVs.

I attempted to find good 3D names but the best domains are already taken, I think in 5 years time or even less, those generic 3D domains will be worth a lot. :imho:

Anyone else registering 3d domains? Do you think they have a future?

tveverywhere.com sold for 24 million
TV.com wouldn't even sell for $24 Million undeveloped.

Just look at that TVeverywhere site. Does that look like a site opperated by someone who paid $24 Million for it? All I see is Amazon affiliate material. The site is lame.

I Googled around a bit, and that figure seems to originate from comment spam about the site.

lol Froy...dont be so naive, dont believe it just because some bloke wrote it on a forum somewhere, go to respected places like DNJournal, Namebio etc

And from a "junior talker" no less.

I have to give this guy credit for one thing - he has managed to irratate more people singlehandedly in this one thread than I can remember for quite some time! - so congrats on that score.

I think its the arrogance that stands out particularly.

Froy - come back when you are ready to listen and learn. You will find that people will respond to your nonsense in a much more patient fashion.

All I ask is that this thread be archived somewhere, and never deleted... so, at this time next year (or two years from now, or three) when the next retarded theme driven domainia hits the citizens of Nameville, this thread can be promptly referenced- and perhaps studied a bit- as an insight into what sorts of human behaviors are involved with a speculative domain rush that has little to no potential of generating profit...

For those of you who think that all you need to do is "wait long enough", perhaps you can reap the all the opportunities of the great "b2b" suffixed names that everyone has since given up on. Of course, most participants in 3d mania haven't even been around long enough to remember that, so go ahead and scurry off to Google and learn what it means, then come back and pretend you knew all along... But really... b2b back in the old days? Is pretty much on par with this "3d" thing, right here.

I would seriously recommend that "you people" (<-- not my first choice of words for what I'd like to call most people ITT, but I promised I would turn over a new leaf and become a kinder, gentler Dongsman) read the following books.

1) Extraordinary Popular Delusions and the Madness of Crowds

2) Irrational Exuberance

3) Contrarian Investment Strategies

4) Famous First Bubbles: The Fundamentals of Early Manias

... and for those of you who don't want to buy books, see if you can't G up a transcript of Warren Buffetts 1999 speech at Sun Valley. But seriously. Get those books, buy them or check them out at the library, read them, then read them again. Stop registering garbage names and invest a bit in yourself, by purchasing some books that will substantially hone your perspective on life, success and how much value should be assigned to the opinions of crowds and 'other people'.

I'm kind of an avid self-student of mania behavior, coming from the right generation where we all had the chance to witness a few very important ones (.com, real estate, leveraged banking and equities prices) that no doubt will be carefully studied in years to come...

This thread is just so, so, so perfect...

No Giles - you're doing just fine!:great:

I was referring to the guy on that webmaster-talk forum saying that tveverywhere.com sold for 400 billion dollars - if you check his status - he is a "junior talker".

So you can take that as gospel.

Highest price paid for domain?

I have seen it in other places also
I will look for a more official post
HAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA...

That thread was dead for three years and then some n00b resurrects it 5-6 months ago to makes his/hers sole post on that forum one about some outrageous price paid for some sub-par (and I'm being quite generous in this description) domain name and that is your supporting material -- for WHAT?!?!?!?!????? You really need to do your due diligence. 234 much hyped matches on Google for, "TVEverywhere.com".

My guess is that someone was just trying to create some buzz in hopes of selling it or some other "TVEverywhere dot ext" for an absurd amount of money.

By the way, if you can stop registering 3D domains for a minute, you might be able to put all your funds together to buy "TVEverywhere.com" at a huge saving and then turn around and flip it for a huge profit... The domain is available for purchase*-*Sedo.com

Words to the wise, froy, we've all been there and done that. It's great to be a visionary and be ahead of the curve on some great upcoming thing, but you'll become a much better domainer (on so many different levels including financially) if you just restrain yourself and really listen and learn from those here at NP that have walked the path ahead of you.

Can't remember where the quote comes from, but it goes something like...
"Life is a cruel instructor, it tests first and then teaches later."

Another reason why 3D is going to be huge in the next couple years is because you won't be able to copy the effect of the 3D itself. You will be forced to upgrade or watch it in the theater.

Thats why I feel websites will be built from scratch and both 2d and 3d sites will be in place
It won't be a redirect instead a choice between the 2 sites.
3D is going to help the economy quite a bit IMO

Most people are also forgetting the bigger picture. Once 3D takes off, DVDs and Blurays will no longer be valid. 3D movies will most likely be put on Holographic Discs and we will seeing huge breakthroughs in data storage. As of right now I am using a server with multiple terabyte drives to store media. If the Holographic storage takes off, you will be able to put all of your movies and music on one single disc.

Now your talking my language. So you are saying you can store up to say 1000 hours of video and music on one DVD type of disc. But it will be called a hologram disc. Or some made up name. That makes total sense to me.

Yes, they are producing 1TB discs as we speak. I have been reading about this for a year now. Being able to put 200+ DVD's on a single disc will revolutionize the way we store media. The discs are completely clear. Of course buying them and the drives will be costly. I know we are way off topic from domains, but this is relevant I think.
