Got this weird email. Was sent to an email account that I do not use with Godaddy. I don't have a website with them either. Looks fishy. All is legit except one detail, the address started with http and not https. I didn't click it but wanted to make some people aware in case this is some sort of phishing attempt or other scam.

Action required:

Please verify your email address.

We're required to put websites on hold if we can't verify the email address on file.

All you need to do is click the button below (it only takes a few seconds). You won’t be asked to log in to your GoDaddy account – we're simply verifying ownership of this email address.

Verify your email address [link was removed by me]

If you don't verify your email address,
we’re required to temporarily put your website on hold until verification is complete.*

Thanks for being a GoDaddy customer.

Looks very suspect.

I received this email as well.

Maybe @Joe Styler can help us with this.

I occasionally receives this also, despite my email address was already verified, it kept on asking me to verify again and again over time. Like I have verified my email about 100 times from the past 5 years already. The SAME email address. Why does GD do that? Maybe GD wants to know if our email is still in use, and is still active, I think. It must has its purpose.

Check the email from where it is coming from and hover mouse pointer over the verify link address and see lower left side of screen if it is going back to godaddy. If not it is a scam.

It does go to Godaddy (hovering over link shows a Godaddy.com address.) However, this email address of mine it came to is not a Godaddy one. I use a different email for them. That's one reason it's strange. The other one is it specifically says "website" and not "domain" - I don't host with them either.

Check the domain status column in your GD "manage domain names" section. It should indicate there if you need to verify. The verification can be for the email used for your GD account and/or the email used in the whois for the registrant.

I get this emails occasionally and the legit ones come from [email protected]

The title (what is written on green field) says: Action Required:
Verify your email address to use your domain.

I never contacted godaddy for this but I only get these when I buy 3 or more domains one by one in short period of time, so I guess they just want to verify you are the owner of the account and the credit card that is charged is yours.

He says the email id registered with godaddy is different from the one on which he received the email

These are real emails from us. At least this is the same email we send. I cannot speak to where it came from, you should always be careful to make sure the emails you get came from the sender they claim to be from and not a person copying the email in an attempt to phish you. If you have any questions about a specific email you can always contact support. This email looks to be the real deal. They are required to be sent by ICANN. I am not sure why it says website vs domain and asked the email people to consider making a change.

Thanks @Joe Styler but can you explain how it got sent to an email I do not use for Godaddy?

I think that is the kind of email I get after I sold a domain and the new owner didn't change the email address and signed up for godaddy hosting.

That could very well be it. No other explanation.
