Any way to not get screwed by redemption?

I let a name expire on March 4 through what amounts to be a godaddy affiliate (frshosting). I thought I could renew for the standard price for up to 30 days after expiration, however, they want $89 for redemption.

I feel like there has to be a way around this, does anyone know?? Through enom and godaddy I've always had a 30 day grace period.

Depending on your timing, check tdnam.com to see if you can buy it from godaddy for less than redemption, depending on the name, of course.

From GoDaddy's ToS...

The Renewal Grace Period is currently 12 days

In my experience it's been that way for quite a long time already. In reality they rarely stick strictly to 12 days and I've seen it extended by as much as another 5 days. Unfortuntely this won't help you, since it's in redemption already.

In my experience expired domains are listed on TDNAM somewhere in the 30-45 day window after expiry. So check on TDNAM every few days, and check whois to see if it has a new owner.
