I have noticed this quite a lot, when i find expiring domain names with good traffic, either go daddy or namejet or one of these hosts sets the name up for auction so they can get profit...

but if the name is just your regular average name with little or no traffic, its cheap and you can easily regg it again once its expired..

Why do they do that? isnt the point of reggin expired domains because the owner doesnt want it anymore and he leaves it to expire? (Assuming its a male ofcourse)

If for example ifidfdfg.com drops tomorrow, it would probly cost between 1-3 dollars to regg. but if food.com expires tomorrow, go daaddy puts it for auction:alien:>:(

Actually no! You got it all wrong. :)
All domains expiring at godaddy have to go through the auction phase. The previous owner has the option to renew the domain within the given time.(usually 42 days)
If your domain is good and has some sort of value e.g. page rank , traffic etc. then people will bid on it. If nobody bids on it then in the last few days it is available for sale fixed price sale in closeout sales. The market itself controls the price of the domains. Godaddy has nothing to do with it. If nobody is interested in the expired domain then ultimately it is dropped after 42 days and available to register again for 1-3 dollars.

That's the way the cookie crumbles and it's not something GoDaddy "invented". Your example with ifidfgf.com and food.com should be self-explanatory. Of course you would want to make profit with good domains, even with expired ones. During the domain Redemption Phase (when the client cannot renew it with the normal price) the registrar has plenty of time to decide if the domain holds any end-user value and they will seek to maximize the revenue offering them on auctions, private sales etc.

As a part of the webhosting business myself, I can tell you that there are countless people not realizing the domain life cycle. Thinking money-wise, when they want to change the host and remove all their services from it they let the domain expire, with the idea that about 1 month later it will be available for registration and they can get it again for $5 to $15. Well history has proved otherwize many times and clients are slowly learning from those mistakes.
