All,

I am looking for your .TV expertise on this one. I just received an offer of 1000 EUR on this domain (Watch Live . TV) over at Sedo. I could use the cash, so I wouldn't mind accepting it, but I do think the domain is worth more.
I was thinking at countering at $2k USD.

Thoughts?

This seems like a great price, which would be about $1350. I would accept, especially if you need the money.

This is a nice name.
Is this a first offer ? If so, I would test the waters in countering at โ‚ฌ2,5k-.

This is a first offer. I would love to counter at 2.5k euro and think it is worth that, but I also don't want to scare the potential buyer off.
I also don't want to get less than what I feel this domain is worth.

I thought about pushing it to a Sedo auction, but I am not sure how good those work.
Thanks for the opinions so far and I look forward to hearing any more.

As a side note, I had put this on NP before for an appraisal and got this info:

Comparable Sale: WatchOnline.tv sold for ($5,105) on GoDaddy Auction /Feb 09

With that, I don't think the $2.5k euro would be out of the question.

Great name and worth 5k IMHO. A first offer that strong is serious.
And I'm sure near the low end og their budget. Counter off strong
and stand on it.

Unless you need cash, and as it seems that you got several offers on your name, fix your price objective and stick to it. There is no theory in this game, but I tend to believe that a first offer at โ‚ฌ1k does not come from a domainer, your potential buyer is testing you, a counter offer at โ‚ฌ2,5k is reasonable, a compromise at โ‚ฌ2k is viable. I wouldN'T let go that name for less than this amount but that's just me.

Counter with 2,500 EUR and cut and paste the above sales into the comments box as evidence to support the value. They will likely accept and you'll have it sold.

I don't think the name is worth anywhere near the price they are offering and would be thinking carefully about what is on the table, if you decide to counter make sure you come home with a sale (ie if they don't respond come back to to the old price pretty quick).

This domain sale seems to favor the buyer at this price point, I don't really follow .tv but these keywords fit this tld very well.... Do you need the money? If not take the risk and counter, for all you know the buyer could only have this amount to work with, and made you their best offer, or maybe they have priced in a counter offer already.... I would counter at this price point.

After some thought, I decided to throw a counter offer back at them.
I do think that this domain is worth more than the initial offer, so I will live with it if the buyer passes. I would rather do that and develop it more than sell it for less than I want.

Thanks everyone for the great insights and will let you know how it goes.

I am in favor of this. Unless this is considered a premium name by the registry, you have nothing to lose but a little cash right now if you counter and provide support for why you feel the domain is worth more money. Nothing says they cannot counter your counter offer with another offer. After all, they felt the domain had enough value to offer you what they did. Chances are they may not walk away as quickly as others suggest, or they could, but at the end of the day it is a great domain and it doesn't hurt much to continue to hold.

With that said, if you need the money and have no other options, then sell!

I'd say it is 50/50, sometimes people do walk away on a counter. Generally a buyer has several names they are looking at. Not saying that any particular method of negotiation is better though.

Definately a crapshoot. Some will walk, some will talk.

BTW I owned WATCHFREE.TV in 2006 and I let it drop. i think that name has gone through many domainers hands, so you have a positive comparable and a not so positive comparable.

Personally, I think it's a good offer. If it was me, I would seriously consider the offer, given the current state of the market & the quality of that name.

I agree with Argos 100 %, no one starts at 1,000 pounds and that is their only offer. Most likely serious. I can say on Sedo when I get $60 offers they are looking for the lowball. But if someone starts at $500 or more you can usually counter. The other important part, the counter being reasonable. It tells them you want to sell and not looking for a wild unrealistic jackpot. The quality of that name I see as good as it is a niche that fits .tv. Again IMO

Of my sales that the negotiations had started at the $1000 offer level , of which the names were of low quality, I countered them all with a $2500 offer. (names of low calibre such as punditstv.com which now doesnt even resolve!) I lost zero of these types of sales.

Counter offer and compromise came very quickly and in a day negotiations were over and sold the domain for $1500 - which i thought was a great price for such a poor name - at least i think its a great price for that name

I would sell in this market because you can turn around and buy a better name with the money you make off this sale.

Thanks, Jim

As I mentioned, I counter offered and never heard anything back.
I decided to go back and counter offer at the original 1000 EUR (lack of development time, server coming up for renewal, etc as factors) and they accepted it
Now just hoping the payment comes through

Thanks for all the advice
