I am thinking about investing in a few more .tv's but do you guys think now is the best time? Do you see a happy future for .tv?

I have found a two word commerce related domain with over 2,750,000 exact searches a month available in .tv. Are these worth registering or do you guys strictly stick with just brandables like Watch.tv, View.tv etc? What are your views and opinions on .tv. Worth the risk? :)

Thanks,

Dave

Too many invariables to guess at. If you are unsure and asking advice of what to do I would suggest you veer away from any investment regardless of the extension.

I am comfortable with my investments and speculative names(of many extensions) so I cannot and will not tell you to "jump in" as it were. Follow a business plan of what the names could be used for and if you wish to sell, hit the pavement with phone calls, emails, snail mail...whatever it takes to get your property noticed. Work beats keeping the name as a parked page collecting dust.

Visibility is key in marketing and the more it is in plain sight, available to the potential enduser, the greater the possibilty of a sale. That is about all I can say, depend on your desire to work as this is a business.

If people are dropping domains like tickets.tv and cellular.tv which have $50 renewals, I think you should tread lightly. The bottom may not come for a long time. IMO.

'worth the risk' is a relative term. I have disposable income available, and I also have the experience necessary to cull money out of a decent term via affiliate marketing. For me, it's more, 'is it worth my time'.

JMO, but you should be able to generate enough income for a decent keyword domain like you are talking about to pay for itself. If you cannot generate income from a domain that has "2,750,000" exact searches a month, then you will have trouble making just about any domain profitable. So, go for it, IMO, unless you are talking about mortgage money or living expense money you are redirecting to domaining.

i love this extension, but not from the "domaining" side of things so much right now - as from the "development" and "brandable" side. i must admit that i loved .tv even more (from the domaining side) before the bottom fell out of the market and .com was locked up tighter than a drum.

that being said - the market has now shifted... there are a boatload of high quality .com and .net names dropping daily that you could not have sniffed for less than $1000 - $5000 just 12-24 months ago.

with us coming into the final phase (and possibly worst part) of this recesssion right now (job losses still mounting and likely to continue and foreclosures continuing to rise which will depress home values even further) - it seems like domainers that still want to be in domains long term should get refocused on .com and .net right now for their obvious benefits and lower holding costs over .tv.

that's just the way things are right now from a domaining standpoint.

if you have a great concept to develop - then by all means, grab that nice tv and run with it!!! it's a great brand in a box... memorable, sticky, brandable, etc. etc... but now is not the time to stock up on bulk tv names for speculative domaining purposes - when there is clearly much more value to be had in other more prominent extensions.

Would be sticking with the aftermarket if you really want invest and probably wouldn't be going for anything close to reg fee. Get something with real value that does not have reg fee issues.

If only, with the name is available it is highly unlikely there is easy money to be made from it.

If you have the money to invest without it being a huge risk, then I would say go for it. There could be a big payoff later on and I would hate to kick myself if I decided it was not worth the time.

consider looking at aftermarket before the name you may be waiting for drops and then becomes premium priced
