I wonder how far it will be in competition with the DotGreen project:
http://www.dotgreen.org/Home.html

Not exactly the same purpose, but nevertheless fishing in the same waters.

This is silly, IMO. Historically extensions with a specific purpose or subject-matter focus have failed miserably (.travel, .aero, .mobi). Why would this be any different? It's interesting I suppose that Al Gore's backing it, and that'll probably get it some more initial focus and press, but I doubt he's going to be out there talking it up all day every day.

So true... people never learn. But there is no certainty this project will ever go live.
It looks more like a PR stunt to me.

Taken from a comment in that Techcrunch article...

"If you think about itโ€ฆ it really could go on forever. They grow their own money trees with TLDโ€™s.

.pic for photo
.vid for video
.twt for microblogging
.soc for social network
.her for women related
.him for dude related
.tec for technology
.gam for gambling sites (or .lose)
.fin for financial

and so onโ€ฆ forever."

:hehe:

I really like this proposed short .ECO extension ... seems perfect for use by those who are Greenโ„ข while they are out and about and "on the go"! :yell: :talk: :imho:

.eco? Excellent idea, I'm fully eco. When will it be released? to public or only org?
How much? maybe $120.00 year with $100.00 donation for Al Gore global warming organisation?
Many questions without answer yet.

Well, he did invent the internet, right?
Maybe he deserves his own extension. >_>

Al gore "invented" the internet, so he wants to invent the domain name system as well.

I couldn't see .eco being any more than another .museum... maybe a little better but there are only ever so many ways you could use this.
