information AI.com is once again for sale with a target price of $100,000,000 dollars

A former asset of Future Media Architects (FMA) the domain AI.com was sold with the help of the SAW brokerage in 2021. Since then, the domain’s mysterious owner has forwarded it to OpenAI’s ChatGPT, to viral videos, and most recently to DeepSeek. None of these companies owns the domain, however, as it’s once again up for sale. The targeted price is a staggering $100 million dollars.

That's what it.com did. But they bought it.com for $3 million.

Not sure how profitable it is though since I would never even consider buying a subdomain.

$100 million isn't an unfair price for ai.com at this time. But it's a steep barrier to anyone who can afford and would want it.

There’s no way a major brand is going to build on a 3rd level domain because it’s an extra layer of contractual obligations and sharing a 2nd level domain with others adds even more risk. Plus, why is meta.ai.com better than ai.meta.com? None of the platforms want anyone learning a domain / destination that takes users out of their silo.

The 3rd level domains annoy me. ICANN should have cracked down on those immediately. They aren’t good for consumers and, to me, some of the ToS seem pretty shady with the way they try to make them seem like they have the same ICANN protections as a 2nd level domain on a gTLD.
