I just received an email from Afternic congratulating me on a domain sale — a 4-character .com for $725.

There’s just few problems:
That domain isn’t in my Afternic portfolio, it’s not in my account, and I haven’t owned it since 2014. I sold it over 10 years ago.

I imagine the buyer is thrilled to have “scored” a short .com at a bargain price — unfortunately, they won’t be getting it.

I’ve already flagged this with Afternic and let them know I haven’t had control of the domain since 2014.

Anyone else seeing strange phantom sales like this? Is this just another case of GoDaddy/Afternic dealing with outdated or incorrect data?

I hope it wasn't you who bought that domain. If it was, you won't be getting it anytime soon.

Well, did you have it listed at afternic for $725?

I had several sales of domains that were deleted from my account for years.

I haven't owned that domain since 2014. And haven't had it in my portfolio on Afternic for at least 5-10 years.

So, this is regarding a domain I have owned since 2014.

It's in my @GoDaddy account now.

It is not listed in my @afternic account. If it was, it was not priced.

Bill said the domain was not in his Afternic account.

What path did this "sale" come from?

I really have no idea where it came from, or where it is even listed. Currently it goes to an Afternic landing page.

I personally did not have it listed for $725. And if @bmugford didn't have it listed for sale, where did it come from?

The only info I have is that it was originally listed at Uniregistry (although I don't think it was ever registered at Uniregistry). But again, that was OVER 10 years ago that it was listed there.

My account rep @GoDaddy just reached out to me about this.

The domain was not listed in my Afternic account. I might have tried to list it at some point, but it was already listed.

Bill said it wasn't in his Afternic account.

It was probably in some weird migrated status.

Either way, I assume this is resolved.

If GoDaddy had transferred this from my account, that would have been a real issue.

I would still like to know where the $725 priced listing came from though, as I have owned this domain for over a decade.

I'd also like to know where the $725 price came from. I did not have this in my portfolio at Afternic.

It was kind of disappointing to hear from that they cancelled the transaction but I SHOULD REMOVE IT FROM MY PORTFOLIO. I didn't have it in my Afternic portfolio, haven't had it in there for YEARS and haven't owned the domain since 2014.

I suspect that they have some 'bad data' somewhere that's left over from the Uniregistry migration.
