Hello NamePros!
By popular demand, we have launched a dedicated feedback thread for Afternic, the GoDaddy-owned domain name marketplace.

We have created this thread as a way for you to tell us what works, what doesn't work, and what features you'd like to see at Afternic (please be constructive with your feedback). We're looking forward to hearing from the domain investment community to help us shape the future of Afternic.

We will also be sharing Afternic product updates in this thread.

Please note that this thread is not meant for support. Please email our support team at [email protected] for assistance.

Anyone got this email from Afternic ?

It's really just a method of hard-selling you on putting BINs on all your domains.

I Switch the domain to afternic nameservers and add 3rd nameserver for verification
Couple minutes later itโ€™s done

Then you can switch back to your preferred NS

This worked! Thanks

Still, if Afternic noticed that there's a DNSSEC issue with your domain (as you said earlier), this will prevent large groups of visitors to resolve your lander at whichever marketplace or nameserver you point to. You have to remove the DS record to solve that. This can be done at your registrar.

@GoDaddy,

Hi James, hope you are doing well.

For many years, up until this November, if the minimum offer exceeded the numbers in this useless and unnecessary column "Why it's great", GoDaddy didn't show those numbers (same as with estimated value).

Could you please bring it back to how it was? I see that you fixed the issue with estimated value (when the min offer is higher), but this column "Why it's great" is still there. Please fix it.

In the last couple days , different unrelated sources stated that Afternicโ€™s database has been leaked.
Iโ€™m unable to tell if itโ€™s true or not but itโ€™s quite alarming.
Any comment @GoDaddy ?

Question to folks using "Self-Brokerage". What's the likelihood of an incoming offer, completing a sale once accepted?

Are these enquiries more qualified, because they create a Godaddy account before they can submit an offer? Or are they similar to the leads generated in conventional Brokerage route?

@Afternic -- is there any info you can share with the users on this?

Some examples are given. I doubt the db structure is really from Afternic:

"email","password","name","user_id","news_num","comm_num","user_group","banned","allow_mail","info","signature","foto","fullname","land","favorites","pm_all","pm_unread","xfields","allowed_ip","hash","restricted","news_subscribe","comments_reply_subscribe","twofactor_auth","cat_add","cat_allow_addnews"

That sounds like DataLife Engine, a CMS targeting the Russian-speaking market. I would be very surprised if this dataset is actually from Afternic. More likely this data came from a phishing campaign.

Edit: The sample shown by the attacker indicates that the data is from animesultra.net and has nothing to do with Afternic. I have no idea why theyโ€™re attributing it to Afternic.

Maybe because Afternic is the fall guy in this season's cyber soap opera.

"... and the FTC's findings that GoDaddy lacked basic security hygiene"

Thought I would list a couple dozen names on Afternic...changed the nameservers a day ago and put BIN pricing in place.

The problem is, Afternic says OVER HALF the nameservers do not point to them when they do. ICANN sees the change and when the name is typed into a browser it seems to find the Afternic landing page easily.

Gonna be a problem if/when the name sells and they try to take the big percentage. Looks like I've got to delist again.

With ICANN, I assume you mean ICANN WHOIS / RDAP, not DNS zone data? WHOIS / RDAP shows registration metadata, while the TLD zone contains the actual delegation (NS) records.

Some registries delay pushing NS changes into the TLD zone even after WHOIS / RDAP shows the update. Certain ccTLDs update the zone on fixed intervals (like 48 times a day), which can create a lag. Even .org is not instant. Added to this, it's possible that Afternic may be returning cached NS records (from their own cache). They should flush their own cache, or query the authoritative TLD servers directly to verify delegation.

Thanks...I had not considered their cache could have a lag.

I just did a more accurate count and it is about a third not showing properly. I think I'll jack up the BIN on those that still show 'no' and give it another day.

Thanks for the clarification. I thought I would have to remove my domains from Afternic.

We are aware of the rumor. To date, we have not found any information to suspect that it is credible.
