Hello NamePros!
By popular demand, we have launched a dedicated feedback thread for Afternic, the GoDaddy-owned domain name marketplace.

We have created this thread as a way for you to tell us what works, what doesn't work, and what features you'd like to see at Afternic (please be constructive with your feedback). We're looking forward to hearing from the domain investment community to help us shape the future of Afternic.

We will also be sharing Afternic product updates in this thread.

Please note that this thread is not meant for support. Please email our support team at [email protected] for assistance.

Purchase Path Failures

This might be geographic or otherwise limited in scope but I found that I could not complete domain name purchases at GoDaddy starting over an hour ago. I just tried again but it stalled out and failed again. I wondered if this is/was also impacting someone trying to purchase from an Afternic lander. For me, yes, it did.

I clicked Buy Now on an Afternic lander, it took me to a checkoutlink URL on GoDaddy with this message:

Error occurred processing link

Has anyone else noticed else? Can anyone duplicate this issue? Or find things to be working perfectly?

Thank you.

@Garet - A lot of issues right now. Unfortunately, one of them is the checkout.

Checkout? Most companies would care about that one. GoDaddy? Maybe not so much. We'll see. Thank you for sharing. I was hoping that my experience was isolated.

When I try to order a domain using the Buy Now button, nothing is added to the cart at first—I have to click it a second time. At least that's how it is for me; I tested it with two different browsers.

On GoDaddy searches, I was able to get items to the cart but was not able to complete the purchase. I tried both Firefox and Chrome. Logged in, logged out. Several times. No luck.

In terms of going from a Buy Now link on an Afternic lander, I was not getting to the cart even.

Checkout isn’t working for me either. I get the error message: "Error occurred processing link". I also noticed that the steps for "Make an Offer" have changed.

Now, to make an offer, you need a GoDaddy account. Before submitting your offer, you’re asked two questions:
  1. What is your reason for purchasing the domain name?
  2. Have you bought a domain name before?
They no longer ask for a phone number. Maybe @GoDaddy is implementing self brokerage option?

I was on the phone with an agent who couldn't even process it on their end.

It's been going on for about an hour. They're aware of it and working on it, but they must have accidentally on purpose forgotten to update the status page.

Meanwhile, we have domains on hold at Afternic...

I am now finding that GoDaddy generously will allow me to proceed to the cart. My experience of not being about to checkout lasted about two hours midday on a Monday. That was ugly.

I think those questions are quite improper and will backfire the prospect buyer. Nobody likes to get interrogated while spending money.

Another round of bugs at GD/AN

1. index page shows 404 and tells to go to ... index page

2. auction cart issues: added names from closeouts, they kept showing and disappearing. Trying to remove one (on the rare occasion that it showed) resulted in total amount not changing. Refresh showed an empty cart. Retrying after few minutes showed the names including the deleted one. Bought finally just like that... Hot mess that must be hurting our own sales via GD/AN.

3. Adding names from GD to AN creates a whole new/old bunch of bugs and issues... The verified unique ns is ignored. You have to delete, reverify, readd... This time though after deleting and trying to re-add it said that the names are ... already in my account )))))))))))) Had to go and re-add via GD. Just so tired and annoyed finding daily new creative ways against new roadblocks set by GD/AN. It is like I am stuck in some weird game or something.

4. My daily Afternic FT names stopped arriving since Feb 15. The manual kick by rep brought some via 2 emails today, but the regular ones are still missing. They are not in my spam box either. Interestingly, I was getting 1 lumpsum FT email a day, but then, in GD/AN tradition of never leaving working things alone it went to 5-6 emails a day, often containing just 1-2 names multiplying my work and now completely disappeared.

WTF, sounds like they are sizing you up to see if you are a sucker.

This is interesting.

If you click it the only option is "What makes this domain name valuable?" then it generates an AI description for the name and the button "Buy Now" at the bottom which takes the name to checkout.

Not very sure I like it, thank you for pointing out this novelty

@GoDaddy is there an issue with the "Make an Offer" option? Yesterday, I placed a test offer to see how the new process works. After creating an account and submitting my offer, I received a message saying I would be contacted. However, I have not received any email confirmation regarding my offer. Are you sure ofers are being processed correctly? When I log into my account, I don’t see any record of my offer. Also, is requiring account creation to place a offer the best approach? Could this negatively impact sales? On Dan.com, buyers could log in via a link instead of creating an account. Wouldn’t that be a better solution? What is the reason behind these new steps? Looking forward to your response. Thanks for your time.

To use your traffic to create new GoDaddy customers. This is the inherent danger in forwarding to a monolithic corporation that offers a wide range of products and services, as what looks like your buyers quickly become their buyers.

That's why Dan didn't care, as all they did was sell aftermarket domains.

Apparently Self-brokerage will be launched very soon. And buyers need accounts to access negotiation window. Maybe that's why.

There are a lot of reasons for this, but aftermarket domains is only a small piece of the puzzle.

Dan allowed negotiation without account creation, as do a lot of other marketplaces. It lowers the friction level greatly.

I'm starting to think like you and move my domains to another domain broker. Just not sure which one for now.
