Hello NamePros!
By popular demand, we have launched a dedicated feedback thread for Afternic, the GoDaddy-owned domain name marketplace.

We have created this thread as a way for you to tell us what works, what doesn't work, and what features you'd like to see at Afternic (please be constructive with your feedback). We're looking forward to hearing from the domain investment community to help us shape the future of Afternic.

We will also be sharing Afternic product updates in this thread.

Please note that this thread is not meant for support. Please email our support team at [email protected] for assistance.

I don't trust them so I just opted out of the DAN migration (all my names are already listed on both platforms). So afternic will remain and whatever prices I have there will what is shown. With all the tech glitches over at GD - I think this is the smart play
I plan to opt-out of migration.

I also don't trust @GoDaddy to be able to "migrate" the listings without issues.

I also don't trust GoDaddy to be able to _____________ without issues.

Fill in the blank with almost any conceivable technical or development issue under the sun and I'd share that emotion.

One question based on a FAQ entry that can be read multiple ways:

Once the migration is finished, will the Dan.com nameservers automatically point to the proper Afternic nameservers?

Yes or No? @GoDaddy

Hopefully it's a yes, because there is no way I'm performing all that manual work to change nameservers on thousands of domains at multiple registrars just to stay with slow-ass. buggy Afternic. Atom here I come!

Here is the Migration FAQ entry, and it doesn't say Yes or No, just some blithering lander-oriented non-answer written by a GD hobgoblin:

Will I have to update my nameservers?

If youโ€™ve been using ns1.dan.com and ns2.dan.com, then donโ€™t worry โ€“ once youโ€™re migrated to Afternic, weโ€™ll automatically switch you to Afternicโ€™s Custom Lander. The design will feel familiar to you.

That's the next GoDaddy dictate. To be announced soon. All Afternic sellers must keep all names registered at GD to allow automated compliance and adjustment of nameservers or pay 50% commissions on all sales. Or just 65% with BoostPlus enabled (by default)

I remember someone was missing a domain from their Afternic account? What happened, and was the issue resolved?

When I refreshed my seller dashboard today, it went from 849 to 848 domains right in front of my eyes. No sold domain, and none in review or on hold.
After spending an hour figuring out which domain went missing, I tried to list it for sale again. I got the message "verification needed" again and again, even though I've already added the verification nameserver. So I gave up, but checked my listed domains again, and suddenly it was back again. How ridiculous!

How can a domain just disappear from your account, and then magically reappear when trying to add it back? Something is rotten in the state of Arizona...

Does it have a Buy it Now?

If so, someone might have added to it their Cart and then later, deleted it from their Cart. I think these shows up as "On Hold" in your Portfolio.

If not, then it's just Afternic screwing around.

Yes it has a BIN with a BIN lander. But while it was gone from my account, it showed the Make Offer lander.

No, there were no domains On Hold or In Review. The domain was just gone.

They, like atom before them will still have both sets valid (ns1.squadhelp and ns1.atom). The ns1.dan.com will just point to Afternic Custom Landers (as they state in their FAQs)

The ns1.dan.com will just point to Afternic Custom Landers (as they state in their FAQs)
A slight nuance here.

The nameservers will not point to specific landers itself. They will just point to the IPs of Afternic webservers, and these are the same IPs for all possible Afternic landers. That means that ns1.dan.com is likely going to respond with Afternic's IP addresses, and Afternic has arranged (in the dashboard) that all migrated DAN domains will get the custom lander from Afternic.

From the DAN Migration FAQ:

"If youโ€™ve been using ns1.dan.com and ns2.dan.com, then donโ€™t worry โ€“ once youโ€™re migrated to Afternic, weโ€™ll automatically switch you to Afternicโ€™s Custom Lander. The design will feel familiar to you."

However, it's technically also possible that DAN is going to HTTP redirect DAN domains to Afternic.

I don't know.

DAN's "then donโ€™t worry" and "switch you to" parts literally say nothing.

One thing that Afternic should definitely pay close attention to is the correct functioning of all TLS certificates during migration, regardless of how this is arranged.

What they should do is the most simple - since Dan is going to be dead, just point the Dan.com nameservers to Afternic (just as Afternic amalgamated their own vast array of nameservers), but we all know that GD rarely does the right or easy thing.

This is what Iโ€™m doing ๐Ÿ‘

Zero faith they can pull off this migration without major issues.

Well, I am completely out.

I unlisted all domains. I was going to keep them all, without BIN, as "listed" but after logging in yesterday and seeing that the 382 domains I have there, and removed the BIN on all of them, 103 magically reverted BACK to having a BIN. Why? I actually do not care anymore. Tired of this.

Lately I do nothing but sign in, inspect my portfolio to make sure the numbers look right and all is how I left it the day before, and then download the data to CSV. Thats it! So somehow AN has decided for me that 103 additional domains needed the BIN reverted back to what it was prior to my bulk changes of removing all of those BIN.

When I make changes to a database and the company cant hold those changes SAFE in a database, a trust issue develops.

While I do not have "Domain King" level domains I also do not have pigeon sh!t domains as he defines it. I still dont want my domains to randomly have pricing changes! During July and August I even thought that some of the LTO settings were changing / reverting on me but I didnt have the energy to investigate that. This is more blatant as its visible right on the portfolio page.

Last, I am not simply an angry customer with a negative experience and opinion of the service. I am a seasoned software / database developer with 45 years of IT experience dating back to before the IBM PC in the late 1970s. I've created everything from small one-off commercial applications to very large real-time transaction processing applications for financial services and reservation systems which hit against huge databases. I've worked for companies as part of large development teams which were spread across time zones. I know first-hand how successful IT projects are supposed to be designed, developed, tested, and implemented for the customer.

So I can say this with the utmost confidence: my experience with AN is NOT normal. The fixes to problems are like patch-work of bandages over wet skin that eventually peel away. It gives the user the appearance of playing whac-a-mole but with software and database bugs, even hardware bugs...

Nothing is perfect. I do not believe human can create perfect applications free of bugs. I dont expect that. However, I gave Afternic SO MANY CHANCES over the many years. I've seen the comments here, going back and back and back... its like a broken record! Shouldnt we expect them to LEARN from their mistakes, correct the bugs so that they dont come back and not just once but over and over an over! To expect a different outcome after experiencing the same perpetual mistakes is insanity.

In addition to my technical experience I've also been a customer with Afternic, in its various forms, since 2004. IMO the best form of Afternic was the one I joined back in mid-2004. Back then it worked very nicely and I sold a lot of domains. No gimmicky boost programs. We simply listed our domains and the site allowed people all over the world to find the domains.

My domains were with Godaddy since 2003 when I moved what I had back then into GD. I eventually took them all out by 2021 after losing confidence with bugs at the registrar level and IMO a horrible UI, as well as renewal costs helping me decide to leave. The experience at GD was much better way back in the beginning, too.

IMO things should be getting better, progressing forward, but they're not! Its so convoluted now!!

So, how much time do I give a billion dollar enterprise to get its act together????

Amazingly, "How GoDaddyโ€™s CEO Strives to Be Better Every Day" is the title of a recent Time.com article How about ACHIEVING better, not just striving for it.

Acheiving is really not that difficult!!!

I dont want to delete my names because there is a bug (or perhaps a feature) that if I delete them then I may find them listed by someone else. Another bug that hasnt gone away.....

So, good-bye. I'm out unlisted.

Tired of the perpetual bugs......

A few weeks ago when "boost" started I removed the BIN from all of my domains. Hundreds. That action sent all of my domains to "in review". Whatever.

Over the next week that number dropped to 8 domains. These same 8 domains would randomly end up "in review" from time to time over the years.

I would contact support, they'd remove the "in review" status, and it would be OK until it randomly happened again at some random date for some unknown reason that no one could ever explain to me. I'd contact support and the same removal of "in review" would happening and then randomly return AGAIN. Round and round we went for a LONG LONG time over those 8 domains.

So when these 8 domains didnt leave the "in review" a few weeks ago I just said to myself: Screw it, I am tired of going round and round with support over these 8 domains and so many other issues. So I've ignored it.

Its bad enough that I MUST list ALL of my domains at Afternic, regardless if I want to sell them or not, because of some "bug" (or is it a feature) which forces us to list all of our domains otherwise we run the risk of someone else listing them. Lets also not forget about the multitude of errors at the main GD site...

Today, I check my portfolio - mainly because I dont trust AN with my data, and what do I see? 4 additional domains are now "in review" making 12 total. WHY??????

I havent performed ONE EDIT to any of my domains since removing the BIN from all domains weeks ago. So why??????

This leaves me with ZERO TRUST regarding data storage and safety at Afternic.

If a database can not retain the values a customer has added to it then this indicates there is a massive IT problem, among other issues since its gone on this long.

I have to ask: Is this happening to me only? To others too? Is this happening to only the BIN field or is other data, that we're supposed to trust the database to store and keep, going to revert or change to some completely unknown value?

How can anyone trust this company/site/service?????

This issue hasn't happened daily since last week but I can't say it's fully resolved because I still encounter it from time to time. And every day or so I see some domains "not mine" still affected with this issue.

This issue still happens and moreover, when I update the price of a domain and check it, it displays the new price correctly. However, after ~12 to 24 hours, when I visited the same domain, it displayed the old price while the name had the new price in my account! And when I checked the GoDaddy search, it displayed the new price but the LTO for the old price!

Here's an example:

A name already listed for $1200 with LTO for $100/12months, if I updated the price of this name to $2400 for example, here's what happens:

- If you checked your domain's landing page after updating the price, it will display the new price of $2400 with LTO for $200/12months "which seems about right!".

- But if you come back later after ~12 to 24 hours you'll find that the landing page is displaying the old price $1200 with LTO for $100/12months and the GoDaddy search is displaying the new price with the old LTO for $2400 with LTO for $100/12months which doesn't make sense at all!

The only fix that worked for me was making an update to the affected listing like disabling and re-enabling LTO.

@GoDaddy This is so frustrating and time-consuming whether you have a large portfolio or even 1 domain. We can't keep up with double and triple-check every listing/edit every day.

This thread has become a daily complaint routine of the very basic stuff that used to work flawlessly on Dan. There are serious issues with the backend of Afternic and GoDaddy that need to be addressed and escalated to be resolved permanently ASAP.
If you can give me an example of a domain this is happening with right now that we can see I will get it to the @GoDaddy handle to look over with the service team.

Hi @Joe Styler, hope you are well and glad to see you here,

Joe please let them pay attention to this. These are not comparable sales. It shows the domains that we (investors) buy at expired GD auctions. Moreover, in some cases, those domains that the buyers are looking for are shown there.
