Hello NamePros!
By popular demand, we have launched a dedicated feedback thread for Afternic, the GoDaddy-owned domain name marketplace.

We have created this thread as a way for you to tell us what works, what doesn't work, and what features you'd like to see at Afternic (please be constructive with your feedback). We're looking forward to hearing from the domain investment community to help us shape the future of Afternic.

We will also be sharing Afternic product updates in this thread.

Please note that this thread is not meant for support. Please email our support team at [email protected] for assistance.

@GoDaddy -- I know this is technically the Afternic thread but I can't find the official GoDaddy thread.

Most of my email renewal notices have been shooting blanks. They show the extension but not the domain name. Any idea how to fix this?

Almost a month, still no payments. May, payments received with a day or two. What's going on with June? Afternic support not helpful.
DM sent

Similar here. Sold a domain on June 18th "Fast Transfer". My first FT ever. The buyer got the "fast transfer" for sure. They put up an e-commerce site on it and are fully in operation.

I have still YET to receive payment.

Afternic support not very helpful.

"check your payout profile" even though in my email I stated that I verified it was working and the sale prior to that (non-fast transfer) was paid to me without issue AND FAST, days.

So, my first ever fast transfer experience stinks and I am seriously considering removing all of my 350+ domains from the FT program if its going to take this long to get paid when they clearly had the funds in their hands in order to transfer the domain to the buyer instantly. Not liking it so far.......

UPDATE: 09-JULY-2024
I replied to customer service and they replied back that there is an error on the W-9 that needs to be corrected. Apparently the business name and EIN that I added to the W-9 for this payment didnt pass validation on the form. However, I was permitted to save the form as if nothing was wrong!

(This is the first time I am using an EIN with a business entity on that profile. Those who know me know that I am colorblind. Red lettering looks black to me. I dont see messages with a pale green background easily. I rely on forms stopping me when I make an error so that I can look around for the problem.)

∙ I never received an email stating that I had a W-9 error on it or I'd have gone back and fixed it way back on 18-JUNE.

∙ On 25-JUNE I received an email saying "Congrats your funds are on the way. We have just sent you $X for the sale of <domain>." EVEN THOUGH the payout profile W-9 had a validation error on it.

∙ Not knowing there is a validation error on their W-9 I began to check my bank for payment.

∙ A few business days later and still no payment to my bank but my family and I went away for a week and I was mostly away from all of this. My bank will notify me of incoming funds anyway. I received no notice that entire time.

∙ So finally, 05-JULY, I email transaction assurance and wait.
∙ I got the first reply (above) and then the second reply (this update) and could not believe that this entire time there was a simple error on the W-9 form.

The error was my fault, yes, but:
Why allow me to to save the form with errors and continue as if the payout profile was OK?
Why not send me an email stating there is an error and I wont get paid until that error is corrected?
Why send me a congrats you've been paid email when clearly I am not paid due to pending error on W-9?

I've been selling domains at Afternic, in its various forms, for 20 years now. My first sale was June 2004. I realize that Afternic has been sold several times and code has changed but I cant be the first person this has happened to. I am a software developer since 1981 - this should never have happened.

If I would have known there was an error by not being able to leave the W-9 edit screen I would not be here writing this and would have been paid already. Now I wait and another 2-3 business days. Meanwhile the buyer received the domain instantly and was able to put an e-commerce site on it within days. Thats the only "fast" of the fast transfer. Fast Transfer - Slow Payment.

The payment is is buggy and SLOW. If the buyer can get the domain within minutes of payment then the funds had to have been secured, no? Am I wrong? If I am someone please correct me. Otherwise why transfer the domain so fast that my registrar's email that the domain left my account happened BEFORE the Congrats you sold the domain X "fast transfer" email from Afternic?

I am sure that if I sell a domain from this point forward the payout profile is set and payment will occur "in 7-10 business days" but to me, thats too slow.

A lot needs to be improved, IMO.

Is anyone else having trouble adapting from the hands-on, relatively fast GoDaddy/Dan marketplace to the non-interactive, slow-as-a-turd world of Afternic?

Everything at Afternic takes literally forever and I feel like I'm living that DMV sequence from Zootopia - you send a simple inquiry and it takes days to get a reply, and it may not even address your question. Payments come in, and seem to sit in "verifying" for days with no updates and negotiation details are never communicated to the end user - you have to keep looking for either a sale or a stalled entry.

The worst part of Afternic is that the end user has absolutely no control of the transaction and you are at the mercy of the Afternic brokers. Sometimes I have made sales at Dan because I replied immediately and struck while the iron was hot. It's the exact opposite at Afternic, and once you give a buy price, it might take them a day or two to actually respond to the potential buyer.

Lately my negotiations at Dan have resulted in both higher closing rates and higher sale prices, while very few of my Afternic transactions ever close, and most just sit there in limbo like a turd trying to climb a mountain.

It's infuriating to say the least and at a certain point I'm just going to toss Afternic some ultra-high BIN to shut them up, then go back to my real negotiations, and maybe later, see how high the 'buyer' climbed up the tree.

But until then, this is me looking at my Afternic Dashboard.

I sold my domain DEEEP.AI via Afternic on Tuesday, July 2, at 6:15 PM. The domain has been successfully transferred from my account. However, I have not received any payment confirmation email from Afternic.

I have messaged the TA Agent five times, but there has been no response. Afternic that domain transfers typically take 5-7 days. It has now been 14 days with no response or update.

Could anyone advise on what steps I should take next?

Sale => Payment in Less Than 2 Hours

Afternic completed a transaction today for me in record time. I don't expect this to become the norm for me or anyone else but it was a pleasant surprise so I am sharing. (I also communicate problems here or directly with AfterDaddy -- I prefer happy tales).

I received a "Congrats" message asking for unlock and auth code. I responded very quickly. I received a transfer complete confirmation from Afternic about an hour later. Roughly 45 minutes after that I received payment via PayPal.

I'm sure that the transaction must have snuck in just under the wire for payment today.

1:52 from first email to payment.

Thank you, Afternic. Sellers do appreciate easy transactions and prompt (lightning fast in this case) payment.

I had an AN FT sale six days ago through Namecheap, but I have not received payment yet neither see an estimate payout day. I have received payment fast for non fast transfer sales. Is this always the case for Namecheap sales? I also received an email from Namecheap about the sale.

Hi @Garet
That's great to hear! We've made some big improvements to our payouts over the last year, and we are continuing to work to make sure payouts are as fast as possible for you.

Just Received Payment email Thanks

Hi @phaethon
Fast Transfer sales can take 7-10 days to payout, but you'll usually have received an estimated payout date. We recommend reaching out directly to our TA team through your sales dashboard, but please feel free to also DM us the domain name so we can track your progress.

Not sure if I missed some Afternic FAQ entry so here goes:

When selling domains via Afternic and selecting the LTO option, the only lander that enables this feature is the Dan style variant. All other landers use the BIN price only.

My question is, which entity facilitates the LTO and handles payouts? Is it Afternic via Tripalti, or is it Dan via its Dutch bank?

LTO is then shown in the GD registration path. Afternic is working on showing LTO on the Afternic landers itself too, atm.

Thanks FS. So the Dan lander is only for show and the transaction/LTO and payments are all handled by Afternic?

GD LTO (set in Afternic) used to forward/redirect to a Dan LTO checkout URL previously. Now, not anymore, it's done natively without using Dan (redir to GD URL, checkout at GD). LTO administration is visible in the Afternic dashboard, as well.

@GoDaddy Can you please consider placing a phone number at the top?

Odd timing but a welcome change. So to confirm, @Afternic listings with LTO have their payments handled via Tripalti?
