In my years of using Afternic, this will be my second weird experience with them.

A domain name sold over 3 weeks ago via Afternic. I quickly unlocked the domain name at Namebright and sent the authorization code. However, unlike previous experience, I discovered that I didn't receive any notification from Namebright about a pending domain transfer for me to approve, meaning the domain name was still in my account.

So I went back to my Afternic dashboard and informed them that I had provided the authorization code for the domain name to be transferred. I also sent the authorization code to them again via email.

The constant reply I kept getting was that they were working on it to have it transferred and that the fault was from the partner registrar where the domain name was sold.

To my greatest surprise and shock, Afternic just sent the below some minutes ago:

How can a third party claim a domain name was not delivered when I had provided an authorization code more than twice?

In the course of waiting for a final resolution, I kept seeing different complaints on twitter from other domainers claiming that they had sold a domain name for more than 3 weeks and were yet to get paid.

I complained to Godaddy here on Namepros and I was told that it would resolved. I also complained to Godaddy on Twitter and it was the response.

With this development, I wonder how many domainers could be going through the same.

This is the reply I got from them just over a week ago. How did we go from this to the recent response from them. As you can see, they claimed to be working to have the domain name transferred to the buyer

It looks like they were assuring you that THEY had not released your domain.

The argument was that the domain name was not transferred. Obviously, payment was received. So why wasn't it transferred when I had provided the authorization code at least TWICE? Afternic refused to initiate a transfer. That is the cause of this problem.

It's definitely weird and you deserve an explanation. I will never understand why GD/AN don't share more info with sellers.

Read the message again.
They mean the buyer canceled the transaction and Afternic did not release the name to the buyer.
This happens. When buyer has cold feet.

Afternic didn’t even initiate a transfer to begin with. They didn’t do anything regarding that. Usually, they would initiate a transfer within minutes of getting the authorization code but this time around, they didn’t and neither did receive any email from namebright about transfer

Same Afternic is saying the other registrar is requesting for the transaction to be cancelled.

May be they smell it's a fake buyer?

Thanks for your messages, @jideofor. We're truly sorry to hear about your experience.

As the TA team explained, the buyer came through one of Afternic's partner resellers, and the partner reseller then requested to cancel the sale. We had to comply with their request.

Losing a sale is always tough, especially in a unique situation like this, which we consider a one-off. Our aim is to help you sell your domains and get your funds as quickly as possible. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen this time.

We're here to support your next sale, so please feel free to reach out to our team anytime.

It definitely wouldn't benefit Godaddy to cancel the sale. It makes more sense, as others have mentioned, that the buyer had cold feet (buyer's remorse) and decided against the sale. You can't force them to receive the domain, and I find it a bit unethical to enter into an agreement to purchase, wait 3 weeks only to cancel the sale.

But at the end of the day, they didn't want the domain so what do you do. I prefer buyers that really want a domain, and generally there is a better buyer around the corner after these failed deals.

January this year I had a $28k sale cancelled even though domain transferred to afternic escrow account. It was my first and only experience of sale cancellation so far. They said cancellation was due to technical glitch.

I believe they wouldn't cancel a sale without a proper reason, fake buyer / chargeback to name a few. They have nothing personal against me. It's their loss in commission. I learned not to count money until I receive "Payment has been sent" email long before in this business so it's better to move on when these things happen.

I think that if the domain name is with a registrar that uses Afternic network fast transfer support
Maybe when the buyer pays and the fast auto transfer.
the sale would not be canceled and the buyer would quickly get the domain and use the

The domain name is at NameBright. It does not look like Namebright is under fast transfer network because I have had to constantly unlock and send authorization for any domain there
