Afternic doesn't pay out and no communication

Hi all,

I have sold a domain for the first time through Afternic. After 4 mails i received 1 time an answer as they said tomorrow it will be paid. That is now like 10 days ago and the payout on the website says 17th of april. Afternic ignores mails and complains and it feels like i and some others are getting ripped at the moment. They have the funds, transfer is complete and domain is gone. What can we do against this theft behaviour. I had high expectations from them but it seems they are not trust worthy at all. Who else has this issue going on at the moment? I know they changed the payment structure and stuff but it seems to me that everything is crashing over there and the lack of communication after commission is unacceptable. Who is with me in this experience? Please share

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
Have you called their customer support

First of all, there is no "theft" involved here, make sure you've set a payout method in your settings area. From what I've seen it can take up to 20-25 days until you receive the funds. If you want more info you can try contact: [email protected]

All done guys. I even requested if the settings were right? It was all good. But if they say tomorrow you receive the funds and we are nearly 2 weeks later of course it feels like theft as nobody takes my mails seriously. We not talking about 5 dollar here so i'm just worried.

Did you called them on their numbers. What they replied ?

I have lost patients with Afternic myself.
The interface is clunky and hard to work with a volume of names.
I stopped listing any more names with them over 200 names ago on the promise that things were going to change and have not. Sold many a name not listed with them but other DLS's.

Going to give them a few more months to deliver and then delete my accounts.

It's the nature of domaining. Nothing really works and everything takes absurd amounts of time. It can be very frustrating at times.

Haven't had a problem with Afternic payouts. Just received another payout yesterday. The entire sale to payout process is averaging around 21 days +/- depending on transfer type.

Has that been always like that for you? Because before this new Transaction Assurance thing it never took more than 1 week to get paid for me.

Same here, first time I've had to wait over a month. Used to get paid within a week or less before TA was implemented.

No it hasn't always been like that - although, it's the first time I've used names outside of their fast transfer network - so it added time to the transfer process. Once the transfer was marked complete, it took roughly 7 days to receive payment.

With their old system sale to payout for me usually took 2-5 days for my manual transfer sales (very fast most of the time - funds were frequently paid out almost right after I pushed the domain to Afternic) and around 7-8 days for fast-transfer sales. Very strange that you have been averaging 21 days for your Afternic sales.

However, my transactions are not taking around 2-8 days anymore with the new system they launched this month. I'm moving to your 21 days +/- average. But that's not how it should be. They should have updated their system so that your transactions moved towards my 2-8 day average, not so that my transactions move towards your 21 day average. This new "update" is a downgrade for me.

I agree that this new update is quite a downgrade from the old one - in more ways than one. It does work and I have received payouts, however, it does not work like it "should". Even the old one had it's issues. I think it's time these companies put some real dollars behind their aftermarket development.

I am also waiting for a payment, it has been delayed once, let's see if it gets delayed again... the domain is still stuck in Afternic escrow as far as I can tell.

I do wish Afternic was as good as the Sedo service.

With Sedo,

- you get a personal transfer specialist to liaise with.
- any issues you can contact them in a dedicated message board.
- if you really want, you can speak directly to them via phone.
- as soon domain is received, they will release funds within a few days.
- never had any payment delays myself.
- communication is very good at least with their transfer team.

I tried to speak the Afternic transfer team and was told transfer agents do not speak on the phone. :banghead:

This is a GoDaddy owned platform, I do wish they got their act together. Not impressed at all.

You may contact Joe Styler here.

I believe he is also afternic's representative on namepros.

If it comes to his notice, it will get resolved.

Sedo has a whole other slew of problems imo. But we'll leave that for another thread.

there's another thread on namepros too, where in one of the replies I detailed the Hell I'm going through to get the payments for 2 domains since the 4th of April (Fast-Transfer). Countless times I contacted by email and phone, each time it's a new answer:
"Were looking into it",
"have to be more patient, the funds are on there way",
"oh we sent you funds days ago (nothing received)..
"oh there's seems to be a glitch with the new payment processor for "international" payments (mind you we're talking about sending funds from US to Canada by Paypal)
"I see on my side everything is correct, you'll get the funds"
"There seems to be an issue with your Paypal to receive funds" (There wasn't, plus I double-checked for the sake of checking"
"Oh even though it looked correct, there was a problem.. now it's fixed, you should be getting your funds"

This is just part of it.. You can ask someone to be patient if in fact it's just a matter of procedure.. not tell them to be patient for a week to see if your system will work and if not, ask them to be patient again when the client calls back and you try something else (no proactive follow-up either)... Do the work diligently the first time.

Greatly disappointing experience.. I used to see Afternic / Godaddy as top notch companies with relatively minute issues..

From what I know Afternic is releasing the funds to it's international payment processor, but for whatever reason they are not releasing the funds in a a timely manner as they receive them.
I guess this is something management has to discuss with the operations manager at that processor.

It is clear from above this process is frustrating to many people.

We are Aftermic customer about 8 years... We had some bad experiences before but they sorted...

BUT last 1 month we are not happy with Afternic at all.

I regret to say that, "Transaction Assurance : New Afternic feature" is a complete frustration...

They sold my domains about 4 weeks ago and they confirmed they received the domains... But they still do not pay...

When I asked them, why you are not sending my payments, they say: "We are sorry we are going to send but we have some payout issues with new system...etc... "

I sent them many emails until now, to get my payments but still waiting... They let me down badly...

Afternic customer service is very bad ... I think that they do not have enough staff ... They respond too late

Sir, it seems you are so lucky... I think they are sending your payments manually...
But we have NOT received our payments yet.
They sold our domains 4 April and other days... Est. Payout days was 12 April, 15 April...
BUT still we have not received our payments.
We had not like that problem with Afternic before. A few days late payments should be ok.
But a few weeks late payments not good at all.

I may just be the lucky one...but I doubt they are manually sending my payments - the process still takes some time. I just sold another domain yesterday, we'll see how long the process takes for this one.

Maybe I'm also just lucky, but I've recently sold 2 names through afternic and got the payment within a week in both cases

They eventually pay but they have horrible record keeping and terrible lags between the time they tell you a domain sold and the time they claim they will pay the time they actually pay. I have about 350 domains with them at the moment and they usually sell in the 200 to 500 range. I get tired of renewing them sometimes and let them go for like 50 which I think might be the minimum.

Most of my sales direct so I get ACH in like days tops. I always get the payments from Afternic just nowhere near as quick. Maybe contact...

Know they are trying to improve things just don't think they have reached that point yet.

Got tired of emailing Afternic for assistance. Pulled all my names off there today.
