...and they're all with godaddy at the moment. Do you think we should move the domains to a different registrar like Fabulous or Moniker, or is Godaddy still good to go? We've used them for years and never had any problems so far.

The only reason we're asking is because it looks like more and more people are moving away from Godaddy.

I have all my domains registered with Godaddy and I am very happy with them and would not move my domains to any other registrar as I am okay with their prices too with the help of coupon codes.

Fabulous will give you a $7.30 account with 100 .coms, will let you transfer them in at their cost, and you will be able to deal with people who treat you like a business client instead of a 'consumable'.

Right.
I recently started using Fabulous by chance.
Mike will give you one on one attention.

Godaddy domain count: 28,861,519
Godaddy 30 day change: +364,223
source

Godaddy 2007: Q1 +1,796,789; Q2 +2,509,230; Q3 +1,524,769; Q4 +1,170,001
source

I haven't seen transfer/new reg detail numbers but Godaddy's base is growing, rate of growth slowing.

Now that's a great deal. Free transfer ins...that alone makes it worth it.

Some great suggestions here, we've looked at Fabulous and Moniker so far. Thanks for all the feedback.

Great observation btw, ecalc.

There's no point moving away from GD because it seems that others are doing so. As eCalc illustrated, GoDaddy's dominance is still strong and its likely that the disgruntled customers ranting about moving away are the minority. If you're concerned about registrar rants, you'll probably find that there are similar cases with other registrars too.

So, it's better to focus on what you need instead of what some others are doing.

Fabulous is a great choice for domainers. However, they only offer com/net/org/info so if you have 100 dotUS names at GD, it may be better to leave them there. Currently, Fabulous doesn't have whois privacy services so if that's a requirement for you, it's worth considering your benefits for this move.

thanks MT, I agree with you. We're not really concerned with the whois privacy and we've been happy with GD the 8 years or so years they've taken care of our .com's. We're probably just wasting time looking for a more solid and secure registrar, but we're always open for new options :)

Godaddy is not terrible as registrar (hosting, don't go there). However, I do prefer DynaDot for a number of reasons. It's like a local mom & pop store, Godaddy is more of a bulky corporate empire.

Hi,

Where exactly did you get the idea that transfers in were FREE?

I don't think the transfers are free - they're just "at cost".
