.mobi A quick observation about companies who launch a .mobi

Spaceship Spaceship
Watch
After reading a few baker's dozen press releases and cover stories about companies who will be launching or have launched a .mobi site, there has been a common thread I've noticed:

These companies seem to have a heightened level of bragging about launching a .mobi.

I know - I know what are companies supposed to NOT brag about a brand new site of theirs? True.

But I just notice that it is a different kind of bragging. One that says, to me at least and I may be totally alone in this :alien:, that the respective company is hip, envogue, and in touch with today's saavy crowd...

Does anyone else get this drift?

>:(

Please don't fill this thread with, "that's cool guess what names I have?" or ".mobi will take over the world tomorrow!" or "you .mobi folk are caaaraaazzzy!" replies. Let's have a real discussion about it.

It would be interesting to read them in succession. Do you have links handy that we could follow a time line of sorts?

Look on the .mobi board...those are the links I'm talking about...and it's not anything obvious like "look at us - we're cool!" Again, it could just be my excitement projecting over. That's why I want a discussion.

i agree with your post. It seems like a lot of these companies want to be the first in their particular field to launch a .mobi website, such as the first bank to go .mobi or the first travel agecy or whatever.

Yeah...like it's first to market or something...I used to get the same feeling when I was first at an estate / garage sale 7 am on a Saturday overlooking all that "treasure." :)

That's the feeling...

I would like to say I agree with you but I have yet to come across anyone companies bragging about their .mobi in mainstream advertisements. I'm looking foward to when/if there are companies advertising their .mobi in major magazines, on the radio, and on tv.

I look foward to the day when non domainers say to me "hey have you heard about this .mobi thing?". Then I will have a big smile on my face like the cat that ate the canary :hehe:

Agree.

Google.mobi in a Superbowl ad changes things just a bit, IMHO. :music:

On the BOFA.mobi matter (which is good news, as I'll post in the other thread in a moment), the very nice Customer Service woman that I spoke with today had no idea of the domain name/extension ... and instead referred me to the BankOfAmerica.com site for my needs (including Mobile Banking). However, BOFA.mobi IS mentioned directly from the "Mobile Banking" link at their main site, IMHO. :gl:

See you soon.

bofa.mobi is mentioned in their link, In Your Humble Opinion?

or it is actually listed?

I donโ€™t think that companies are going to advertise their .mobi sites directly to the public at least not for now, the ones that get a .mobi will probably include it in their ads to complement their regular website, kind of like the way banks advertise their drive through hours or their ATM locations. Now if there is a new company that only has a .mobi domain then they might very well make that the focus of their advertisements. IMO

It IS actually listed ... please follow the "Mobile Banking" link from the main BankOfAmerica.com website and you should arrive at the following:
http://www.bankofamerica.com/onlinebanking/index.cfm?template=mobile_banking

A New Way to Bank
Mobile Banking is now available to Online Banking customers at www.bofa.mobi from your cell or smart phone browser ...

Are you getting a different result, Mjnels? :gl:
Thanks.

There is no doubt that a certain amount of pride is exhibited when a company launches their dot mobi. They have just opened an additional revenue stream and kudos to them. Its now down to their competitors to catch up :)

I am proud to be the first, or at least one of the first to start a "mobile" photography site. Since I couldn't find anything close, My site will now mention;
"the Worlds 1st mobile photography website delivering fine art photography to your mobile screen"

People like to read that sort of thing IMO- you (as a business) like to take the initiative and start something new before the competition!

Well Said Erwin

Just like my RxD.mobi site, I think I can say its the first ( or one of the first) mobile pharmacy sites out there, even though its just a Pharmacy locator for now.

Great Thread :)
