So I ran into a guy the other day who told me he has a programmer he uses overseas to program his code, not graphics or templates but his code.

He made reference that the coder he uses costs him next to nothing, like $200/month and he is constantly working for him.

Now I understand this guy could be blowing smoke but I have to ask.

Understanding people work for different amounts of money all around the world.. Is there coders you can hire on a monthly basis overseas.. and if so what would it cost to hire him/her? Like say I could promise a decent coder a years worth of work, what woudl this cost me monthly?

Thanks

I can't give you an exact monthly number. Here is something which might help:
Do you know enough coding to evaluate his/her skills, especially related to security?*

*Actually, that same question applies to anyone you might hire, even expensive pros.

Clear communication might also be an issue.
Short answer = "Yes, some people work very hard for what we consider to be extremely cheap."

Yes I understand coding well enough to review code and test it..

Any idea how to establish such working relationships?

~$200/month is pretty cheap; If it has to be that low:
  • Craigslist in "poor English speaking countries & India"
  • Forums like here, DP & V7N (but you will get replies from many who aren't really qualified)
  • One other idea: Post a few (small) jobs on rent-a-coder; How strict are their rules about "future contact" w/ the cheap coders there? (ie. Hire once through RAC and then cut out the middle-man)

Have fun :)

some great ideas from the 34 year buzz but again be careful when hiring at that low a price for a service like coding. Also look at odesk and other outsource sites + don't just focus on outsourcing there are some great guys who are younger and don't have a lot of life's overhead yet who will work on a basis of availability for less as well.

It depends on the good relations and past works. There is not much risk in hiring overseas programmer.

I've hired people from EasyOutsource before to carry out some tasks. It's always gone well for me.

Just know you get what you pay for. If you want this to be a growing a business then you need to have a good working relationship with that developer.
