Hello everyone,

My friend is a HTML, CSS and PHP + MySQL coder and he also has photoshop skills. He would like to start his own coding and designing company and he will work online. He plans to hire a couple of coders and designers so he can do more then one project at a time. What he wants to know is should he pay the coders and designers per hour or should he pay them so much a month and what about if their is no work to do?

he should try set a wage / % they get per job they do for him, they need to work something out with him.

If he is starting out then tell him to go slow. Tell him to test some coders and designers on the pay per project basis. Because a small financial slap in the beginning will be a huge blow to the business.

If possible then take only some projects and let there be enough time gaps between 2 projects so that if something does happens then the problems can be tackled within that time frame.

Don't take the work you don't like and do it just for money. As it is starting, only do some work that interests you. I have seen many people leaving it in middle. This is all due to the interest.

The best tip I could give is that if he knows all that PHP and stuff then he should first of all do some work himself and make some good clients base. I don't say that people don't work but it always happens that when we put our work in others hands there is bound to be some mis understandings and problems in some cases.

On the other hand if he wants to go fast. Then he can design the site himself for this company, give PPC ads, start some marketing campaigns etc. And the projects will roll in. Main thing is that projects is not a problem for any developer who knows his business. But the problem is completion of those projects with maximum satisfaction from the clients side. So it is the developer, the creator who has to worry and take it personally that this is his job and he needs to finish it.
