First off I am not stating this is scientific in any way.

But ask yourself this question: Hypothetical if there were a new reg rule you must reg for 5 years like .co.uk is a min 2 years

What % of my portfolio is worth regging for 5 years upfront ?

IMO if you are regging that far out up front, these are domains you determine to hold great value and will not sell on the cheap.

I would say if you said 0 to 20 % then you have a lot of domains that maybe are not even that worthwhile to you.

I am thinking about this now with my portfolio and I guess including premium I am at 50 % if it were a rule hypothetically. Actually thinking about it just on a valuation exercise.

I'm going to go with 80% (to 90%). Have no idea how it would be financed, but my intention is long term hold and everytime there is a special going I always reg names for a number of years.

Actually, the only names I have sold are through Afternic and they are names that I would have dropped.

I'm very bullish on the tld!!!

Thank you Mark, I went down the list I think I am 80 % too. Because I got down to 38 and I would only drop 6 to 8

I've always been in it for the long haul. Not looking to reg & sell quick for a quick buck. In fact, I have yet to sell any of my .tv names as I haven't really put up any for offers yet.

I would probably estimate that I would say about 75% of my portfolio if I was to take a guess, without reviewing my whole portfolio now.

Great topic.

95% her.

Roughly 80% for me as well.
The other 20% are ones that I bought when Godaddy had their very very cheap price - if the price wasnt so cheap, I can't say that I would have registered all the ones that I did then.

Interesting question. I imagine that many domainers are like myself, in that they have a hard time letting go. At the beginning of April, I decided I needed to clean out my portfolio a bit, cut it down to only those domains I really truly need.

I think profitability comes down to that: Need not Want. Keep what you need, the domains that you truly believe in.

Interestingly enough, the domains I put in my clearout thread has generated over $800 in sales so far, with 3 inquiries on other domains still out there. Not bad for 10 days, the key is being realistic about prices, and focussing on your end goal: that eight hundred bucks is going to purchase some inventory for one of my 'need' sites.

I'd still say I am at 40-50%

Well, its a very interesting question, unfortunately, mine is notgoing to be a clear cut answer.....

Because when I bought all my names upuntil very recently, I was a domainer only, with a blog at best....thus my money would be coming from domain names only and so in that siuation Iwould say thatI would hold onto at most 40%,,,,,,,,I am only two years in this game, and lot of stuff I reggged should be used for stocking fillers, not mind numbing bank account burning renewal fees

However now I would drop thatamount even further - since I have moved to developeemnt, I dont think I could honestly say that more than 15% of my names are that strong that they are guarenteed to be sold or developed within a usual persons life span never mind mine which is all over the place.

I console myidiocy by reminding myself that just a few 7.5k NUTSTV.COMS will take care of all the crap, whilst the well chosen names will either be flipped or sought out by an end user or developed ......

Not too bad for someone who seems to flip flop more than John Kerry.

Domains are all about holding and waiting if you are not an active marketer. Buyers cant buy your name if they dont know it exists.

Back to the thread. I voted 80% yesterday. I think my .TV portfolio is actually in a very good position. I have only dropped about 8 ever, and even then they were decent names that may get picked up at TDNAM or at least re-registered. Versus the 175 .coms I have dropped over the last 3 and a half years.

domainacrobat- yeah, .TV wise, I am probably up to 80% too. .com pulls the average down, I have some questionable ones. I am letting DataEntry.tv go, really don't have a use for it.

Nice post.
I would guess that 50% sounds about right for me with my 5 top Geo's, 3 best adult & 1 educational .tv's being regged for as long as possible.

I will keep most of my others for another few years and then have a look at the market though i would guess my tourist destination Geo's will be sold soon as offers are getting more common.

I just re-read the first post, and it didn't expressly say .tv domains- assuming .tv I'd say about 75%, so have voted 70%.
If we included all domains, probably a bit lower.

I pretty much cleared out those domains I'm not going to renew but I think I still have few more I want to get rid off.

I'm not a quick flipper type unless the offer is reasonable enough to let go the my domain.

I would say 90% I will keep.

I will try to develop some of them.

at a time when renewals are approaching ....... i will only keep about 20% of my names, so i am trimming down to the ones i like and consider long term

just went through the process of weeding out the bad ones and let a few drop, of the ones I kept this thread made me go back and have a good look again, and being realistic I'd never develop some of them so 60%
