A Network of Sites - Would this Work?

I've seen 'networks' of sites before, and I had a question.

I want to start developing credit card websites. I'm making a couple that are anti-credit cards. I am also thinking of creating a blog, and possibly a website dedicated to honest credit cards.

If I make 5-6 sites (on different domains), all related, and then interlink them all together... would this help my PR? Is this a good way to go about it?

Also: would it be smart to make 10 simular webpages, all simular content, but slightly differents (name, design, some content). That way I'd have more 'share' of the websites out there. Then, when I link them all together they will all be relitively high (assuming I get other links to the sites as well).

Does this work?

Thanks as always! =).

Some SEO experts say that Google will penalise (low or no pr)sites using the same IP and interlinking. Also sites that have similar content are thought to risk being penalised.

Links from outside your network (if they are relevant to your sites content) is the way to go.

Thanks for the response. This helps.

How does google know my IP address?

If you have all your sites hosted at the same host (the same IP)

That's interesting. I didn't know they penalize on that basis.
