I love how Neil turns around the Opera article into something positive. He probably read the article from the CEO of Opera bashing .mobi this morning and realized he had to comment on it.

I think the CEO of Opera is bashing .mobi just to try and bring attention to his browser. There is no way to make technology "smart" enough to take a site that isn't designed for mobile devices to fuction as well as site that has been designed with mobile devices in mind from the ground up.

"There should be one Internet," he says. "What if you're using another device? Should we have .gameconsole? .car? .fridge? .plane? We don't need .mobi at all."

Nothing flawed about that argument.

I agree with the one internet thing. The internet was created to be used across all platforms with .com doing that.

I'm 100% in support of mobi and I hope it succeeds because I've invested alot in it but I have my doubts too. This is what I think.

We should be able to access the internet from any device regardless of the extension. Simplified, we only need one extension. Which is .com. This is why not one extension has ever come close to touching what .com is. Unfortunately people will also want to view the same exact website that they see on the .com as what they see on their mobile device. I know that many people don't want to have to see two seperate versions of their favorite website and spend the time getting adjusted to it.

But................As the mobi argument states. People don't want to visit unreadable crammed down .com websites to fit their cellphones. In about 10 years there will be Holographic technology that will create a virtual PC display in the air that can display your full sized .com website.

FORTUNATELY for us, this technology won't be around for at least 8 to 10 years giving MOBI rule to mobile devices for those 8 years!! and maybe by then people will be so used to .mobi that they will design those holographic webpages with mobi as the extension. hahaha.

Think I'll start getting my list ready for the .holo landrush since I missed this one. :)

Now I'm off to trademark 'games' and 'music'

Haha. Holographic technology is going to be incredible.

One holographic technology that will actually aid in mobi's success will be the holographic keyboard due to be launched by the end of the decade.

Since many people don't like the look of phones with qwerty keypads and think they are too big and clunky, a few companies are working on a device that will take your normal phone and create a virtual keyboard in the air or on a flat surface. When you put your fingers over the coressponding keys a device tracks your movements and puts in what characters you press. As long as you could see the screen future phones could be even smaller than they are now.

It's pretty neat stuff.
