A domain name for a free phpBB forum

I'm the administrator of a free forum on setbb dot com. Let's say that it's setbb dot com slash progear. I would like to have a domain name in the style of progear dot info that shows the page on setbb dot com slash progear.

Is this possible? Can this be done for free? I don't have an internet connection, because of fear for hackers. I'm using the internet in public places. Does that make a difference?

Eventually I'm also interested in asking something like www.progear.info.be.eu.org That's free, but the registration procedure looks difficult, and I really know nothing about it.

Let me get this straight you don't have a internet connection because of hackers?? My god.

Domain names generally are not free, you can mask over you forums yes so that it will show the domain name as the address but your forums as the web page but its not very plausible. Why not set up your own forums on a free web host like 000webhost?

You can't get a decent domain name for free. Registering a domain name is as simple as creating a godaddy account which is done over a secure https connection with a credit card or paypal account. Masking the url for your domain name is a little trickier. You'd do best to spend some time Google searching it. Get in touch with me via PM or something if you need more help on this issue.

Masking it is simple if I remember correctly, What you do is mask it with a free .tk then right click, view source, copy the code put it in your web page on your new domain and volia. Uses a iframe I think.

I have been using something like progear dot tk for some time. It's rated very low in the google results if I search for something like progear. I thought that it would improve if I had an info domain name. Is that right or would it make no difference?

If you looking for search traffic then your on a loser straight away since you using forums on someone else's domain.

I suggest getting you self your own domain grab some free hosting with a cpanel and install your own forums.

This is certainly possible if your webserver lets you use URL rewriting mechanisms (e.g. mod_rewrite for Apache). Ask your webhost if they support it. You can PM me if you need a push in the right direction.

Also, word of advice: I appreciate security paranoia, but if you take the proper precautions, the benefits of having your own internet connection far outweigh the danger from malicious users.

That is probably the craziest thing I have heard today.

What you're trying to do is the cheap/free way out, an investment in buying domains is always worth it
