Hello all,

For several months, I have been recording 6N sales from Asian auctions. I now have enough data (thousands of sales) to offer some perspective on the 6N market and general trends. Because the market is so liquid (and large), I have segmented the data into specific "pattern" types which have a large enough sample size to be meaningful.

Please note that there are other threads for showcasing your domains and discussing 6N in general terms. In this thread, I will highlight and discuss only 6N.coms sold at auction (live bids and confirmed buyers) on Asian platforms. I will use this thread to focus on specific pattern sales with short commentary. Hopefully, this will help buyers and sellers in pricing and bidding.

Please note:

1. I have not captured every sale, but am confident I have recorded "most".

2. I make no warranty as to the accuracy of the final sales price as I am relying on the auction sites and the sales reporting site Chaomi.

3. There is a lot of data and almost impossible to capture all. For perspective, the pattern I will analyze today has almost 80 recorded sales in the last 7 days. How many of this pattern were published on Namebio in the last 7 days? The answer is 0. Feel free to add sales that I may have missed or from lesser known auction sites.

4. Sales are in Chinese yuan (CNY)- Conversion guide (changes daily, so not precise):

2000 CNY- $304
2250 CNY- $342
2500 CNY- $380
2750 CNY- $418
3000 CNY- $456
3500 CNY- $532
4000 CNY- $608

Today's 6N pattern analysis: The interior, non-eight "triple" repeating digit (no 0,4).
Pattern type example: x111xx, xx111x

In fact, there were no non.coms found for the same mask: the http://dnpric.es/?q=(6)+!|8+888+!8.&searchmask=numbersonly returns the same 71results. Very odd. But, hey, those who love 888 love .com the most.

Thanks for the 888 stats from Namebio.

Pattern sales last two days:

868836 2888
722256 2998

733356 2998

233395 2998
887196 3899
811992 2300
626363 2700

Triple interior non-8 are selling for over $400 (converted from CNY) now. There is only one domain on this list under $400 converted.

Volume is low.

I sense many investors are "holding" their best patterns (myself included).

The average domain without 0,4 is hovering in the $250 area.

Great job as ever OP.
Worth mentioning that 888885.com just sold in China for 200,000 RMB - approx $30,000.
As good a name as it gets in 6n and if you ask me a very good buy even at $30k.

There are actually more. My original link referred to pattern search AABBB, while the question was about AABB and then having 4 in position 5 and 6. Free pattern search supports only four first characters.

This will give all those with 4 in the 6th position:
http://dnpric.es/?q=(6)+pattern:{N:1}{N:1}{N:2}{N:2}+4.

As to "4" in the position 5, this is the right syntax, but one needs a premium account at DNPric.es: """ (6) pattern:{N:1}{N:1}{N:2}{N:2}4 """

I wonder if you have any observation about 6N.com with exterior pairs incl. number 4 with a combination of 54 or 84 or just with the number 4 like:

thanks

Though I look at sales almost every day that include 0,4 I do not record data for these 6N. There are some days where over 3000 domains of this type are auctioned. I simply don't have the time. However, my opinion is that 4s are penalised, no matter what number precedes it, unless it is an obvious rare pattern, like 123456, etc. When I look at domains with 4, in my mind I substitute the 4 with a premium number and estimate its worth without 4. Usually, the domain with 4 is "discounted" by about 75%.

An example from today: 332443 Two pairs with an exterior pair (33). If you substitute 4 with 5, its a $275-300 domain minimum. With 4, it sold for 290 CNY ($44!)

Though I understand that 54 and 84 and 541, etc. are theoretically positive and, in my opinion, there is a bit of a synthetic "wall" of value related to 4, the ultimate arbiter of value is the 6n market, and there is plenty of data to suggest that 6N domains with 4 are deeply discounted, and can only be rescued by a premium series (1234) or a bunch of 8s.

Nat,

The bottom auction price that I could find last week was 90 CNY; this week I have seen a low of 130 CNY (about $20). However, there is no way I can look at every auction.

Hope this helps

It depends on the patterns. I sold these names 2 weeks ago on namejet:

339914.com-$119
928810.com-$101

The reason why the "4" sold more is because of 2 double repeating, "33 99", the chinese understand that, I understand that because I sold off 800 6n.com's, but so many people need to really look at patterns instead of the numbers

Thanks for your research, your doing an amazing job, and educating people here on Namepros.

You are absolutely right. It depends on the pattern. The first domain is probably a $400 domain with a premium end but $119 is still a great ROI. The second is more subtle, as "zero" is the weak number (perceptually) but I am seeing increased acceptance and value of "0" recently.

For example, yesterday 139001 sold for 2999 ($450). More of these sales are popping up and I may do an analysis of 0 by position if a find an extra 20 hours or so.:)

I am curious as to whether this will change in the upcoming months. I agree that 4s are not good, but it also does seem that the 44, 84, 48 is not bad. The market, as of now, is indeed discounting them. However, I wonder if it is in part that much of this is domain investor driven, and there is a "fear the four" mentality without understanding the complexities associated with numerology, or if it is because the premium numbers in 6n.com are still relatively cheap. Either way. For those picking up any 6n.com at 20-30 dollars, it is tough to think you will take a loss on those, even with 0s or 4s.

Rationally, I agree with you. From my experience in the 5N market, which goes back a few years, I believe the number 4 is being discounted more than at any time I can remember and this is driven, partly, by the way sales are reported which segregates 0,4. But it doesn't matter what I think when I offer a domain like 88x44x and I get no offers at $xxx. And, even if market perception becomes more positive, upside is probably capped.

^I guess it is then important to know what one gets a 0,4 pattern for. Again, ROI, if you can pick them up cheap, then even if it is 75-80 dollars in a few months, we are talking doubling one's money within a year. Unless they are so undesirable to other investors or end users that the market bottom just falls out for 6n.coms with a 0 or 4. I am not a high level active 6n.com buyer, but I have some, and would buy a bit more at such low prices. The 6n.com market is speculative, and the 0, 4 patterns are even more so. But the difference seems to be that the speculation is at the low end. Considering we all resister hundreds and for some, thousands of hand reg domains (at 10 dollars a piece), most of which (according to what we see on the board), are a waste of ten dollars, investing in any 6n.com would not be the worst decision an investor could make.

Hi,

Portfolio of (100) 6N.com sold for $2851 yesterday on Flippa. All with 0 and 4. No pattern at all.

Thanks

I saw that as well. So, 100 domains (one can imagine given a large bulk sale, that will be one of the lowest cost per domain prices), and no patterns at all, and 28.5 dollars a domain. That is just over 2x registration fee. Given the numeric market, I see no way that that person is going to lose their investment, and if they time it well, can make much more from that portfolio by piecing it out carefully over time.

Today's trading:

Volume remains light with "only" 244 completed sales (no 0,4) in the last three days.

Though pattern sales are few, some attractive domains have been offered.

The sale of 888885 the other day for CNY 200,000 set a new bar for chinese auctions since I have been recording sales. A stupendous domain and of such rare quality that we don't see more than few like this per year in a public transaction.

Two palindromes:

286682 3088
872278 3000

A repeating pattern:

178585 3888

Triple 1's:

711156 3166
511163 2999

*For those that carefully read the OP on interior triple repeating patterns, you will notice that sales have moved into a new price zone. Sales are consistently in the 3000 CNY range now ($459).

The power of one number

I noticed an interesting group of sales on Namebio from Namejet that highlights how important a change in one number can be:

998806 $160
998826 $1,300 (2 instead of zero)
998825 $800 (5 instead of 6)

9988 is surely a top exterior double pattern, but is 998826 really $500 better than $998825? This is the variation that can happen in auctions and, as previously mentioned, why I always like to see a meaningful sample size when assessing price. Nevertheless, this type of "exterior" pattern type increased more than any other type presented in this thread, but don't expect this level with, say, 3311xx. 9988 and 8899 are elite.

Great job as ever OP.
Worth mentioning that 888885.com just sold in China for 200,000 RMB - approx $30,000.
As good a name as it gets in 6n and if you ask me a very good buy even at $30k.
Very nice. Do you know which marketplace the numeric sold on?
