Hello all,

For several months, I have been recording 6N sales from Asian auctions. I now have enough data (thousands of sales) to offer some perspective on the 6N market and general trends. Because the market is so liquid (and large), I have segmented the data into specific "pattern" types which have a large enough sample size to be meaningful.

Please note that there are other threads for showcasing your domains and discussing 6N in general terms. In this thread, I will highlight and discuss only 6N.coms sold at auction (live bids and confirmed buyers) on Asian platforms. I will use this thread to focus on specific pattern sales with short commentary. Hopefully, this will help buyers and sellers in pricing and bidding.

Please note:

1. I have not captured every sale, but am confident I have recorded "most".

2. I make no warranty as to the accuracy of the final sales price as I am relying on the auction sites and the sales reporting site Chaomi.

3. There is a lot of data and almost impossible to capture all. For perspective, the pattern I will analyze today has almost 80 recorded sales in the last 7 days. How many of this pattern were published on Namebio in the last 7 days? The answer is 0. Feel free to add sales that I may have missed or from lesser known auction sites.

4. Sales are in Chinese yuan (CNY)- Conversion guide (changes daily, so not precise):

2000 CNY- $304
2250 CNY- $342
2500 CNY- $380
2750 CNY- $418
3000 CNY- $456
3500 CNY- $532
4000 CNY- $608

Today's 6N pattern analysis: The interior, non-eight "triple" repeating digit (no 0,4).

Summary: Remember, this is one week. There are hundreds of data points for each triple over the last few months. This pattern bottomed in early-mid December at 1400-1600 CNY on low end. The last two weeks show increasing price.

I will analyze the next pattern in a day or two.

You have been on the money Jim, you are right about 54, I have spoken to a few contacts non domaining related who are in China, and they both said 54 was very desirable, they had no idea why I was asking and I never mentioned domain names at all. I have been getting a lot of offers on 898954.com. Kassey Lee gave me this translation:
This is how we say it. Split the number into three groups: 89, 89, 54. In Cantonese, this is an excellent number. 89 means "making a fortune forever" and 54 "not dying". Remember, there is no one-to-one translation from number to Chinese characters. It's all about rhyming and using your creative mind.
I may re-price my 848454

"84" "84" "54" is a great 6n, all has positive meaning, and way better than the so called chip of let's say a "653275, ect. Patterns is key!

Domain name sells if it has 4 and pattern is good and placement of 4 is positively meaningful.

Some pattern sales of the last few days. This market segment remains strong with good bidding. Domains with two "pairs", especially if one pair is exterior, continue to show robust prices. The average price of a domain without 0,4 has dropped to 1500 CNY. Also, the floor price has dropped slightly to 120 CNY ($18.35)

Volume has been extremely light the over the weekend. So, instead of focusing on top patterns without 0,4 I am going to highlight some trends and take a look at some 7n sales. Generally, 5N,6N and 7N show similar trading characteristics. 7N is more volatile due to the massive number of combinations (10 million) but its value is derived from the strength of the 6N market, which in turn, trades with a high correlation to the 5N market. 7N quickly loses its floor if 6N turns down (which we saw at the end of 2015) but has been noticeably stronger over the last few weeks. Of course, good patterns are crucial to the 7N market as there is a large quantity of "middle ground" domains (without 0,4) that trade at reg fee or worse.

Some 7N sales in the last two days:

8166618 550 ($83) Very nice palindrome domain with bookend 8s and a triple 6.
9966919 270 ($41) no 8, but a "double pair" and made with 3 numbers. 4.5x reg fee.
8383858 410 ($62) No pairs but 4 8's in a nice pattern.
8855899 650 ($99) Similar to 6N exterior double pattern, with top 2: 88,99 and only 3 numbers.
7755818 1200 ($182)
3111157 170 ($26) Interior quad with weaker numbers- still 3x reg fee.
5311113 400 ($61) 311113, three numbers- much harder to "make" than one above.

And...Namebio:

3682222 $460 Quad endings are sort of like triple endings in 6N. Will always be strong.
9999185 $235 Quad 9's.
5881688 $144 Double 8 pair with a "1688" end. 168 is a very positive combo in Chinese numerics.

Finally, some 6N sales that may have gone unnoticed:

810666 10,000 ($1516) ename
513000 8,550 ($1297) 4.cn
002009 $498 (Godaddy)
542288 2700 ($409) ename
930066 1600 ($243) ename
290008 750 ($114) ename
484885 500 ($76) ename
844470 470 ($71) ename

For a few weeks now, there has been a stealth market in 6Ns that include 0. Look at the top two sales (and the GD sale): this is an incredible rise for domains with these characteristics. Though "0" is perceived as a "neutral" number, the right combination can be very positive and "double" and "triple" 0 are similar, though not as highly valued, as other non-4 triple patterns.

Which is the best pattern among these three: 290008, 484885, or 930066? Just on a pattern basis, I think many of us would choose 484885. I know I would if I didn't know the price. Yet, every day, these domains (with 4s and 8s) do not finish at the same price as several "0" domains with decent but not "great" pattern. I understand the negative perception of 4 but it seems overdone. Free the four!

Pattern sales the last two days:

Some 88's:

886928 3600
883586 3100
886576 3200

Ave: 3300 ($508)

Three triples:

913331 2500
836669 3000
719991 3000

Ave: 2833 ($436)

999962 20,500 ($3,154)

Some sales with 0:

005580 1500
977750 600
281880 1100
057900 1100

Domains with 00 and decent patterns continue to outperform single 0.

Note: though good pattern sales remain consistent, average domains are falling in price across the board. 4L,5N,6N and other lesser extensions have seen price erosion, especially in mediocre domains. In terms of 6N, watch the next few months as renewals are approaching and the massive buying of last summer means that holders with 1000s of domains will be taking whatever they can get prior to expiration. I expect downward pressure on non-pattern and low quality domains for the next few months.

I think the next wave up for 6n chips is just starting today:
http://www.chaomi.cc/ym/13/1

I have also seen the spam go up a lot in the last few hours especially for:
313318.com and 313328.com. These 2 names regularly get huge spam for some reason.
Yes they are good 6n's but why not 299928.com, 399936.com etc. that I have. I don't think i've ever received a single email for these ones.

I'm reading too much into the spammers I think lol.

Before I list sales, I would like to clarify the reporting of sales and "average" pricing at Chaomi, as it seems there are misconceptions about what is being reported.

First, the basics: The first table of auction listings below the "summary" table have listings numbered from 1-50. Many of these are just bulk listings and not all are sold. If the domain is highlighted in green or red, the domain was sold, and that is the sale that Chaomi uses for its most recent "average" at the top of the page.

In fact, it is usually the lowest price that determines the "average". The current "average" is 1248. However, a bit earlier it was 1198 because one of the bulk listings offered by seller #102878 (all at 1198) sold. Usually, the bulk listings with the lowest price will have the most recent sale.

I only use the second table, which lists actual sales with bidding statistics. The average here is usually higher than what Chaomi reports at the top of the page.

The bulk listings are typically offered by investors who own 1000s of 6N's. Between mid-June and end of August last year, there were over 400,000 6N registered. Many of these were "good" 6N without 0,4 but "random" patterns. As we approach summer, many of these large holders are increasingly willing to drop the price on bulk listings of these domains in an effort to shed inventory and reduce renewal costs.

Pattern domains, on the other hand, were either registered before the rush or towards the beginning of the "buyout" phase that started last summer. Prices have remained steady not only because they are "rare" but also because the bulk sellers and others hold these back, selling the more ordinary domains first. These domains can go down in value as well, but so far, not nearly to the extent of "bulk" domains. In some cases, patterns have risen as bulk offers have dropped.

Lastly, what Chaomi "reports" as an "average" sale is now in exactly the same range as it was when I started this thread. I have seen some uninformed "opinions" that the 6N market has dropped 50-75%, etc. Not true AND which part of the 6N market? Markets go up and down and this is no exception. If it went straight up every week, we could all become rich simply based on predictability. Fortunately, it is much more difficult than that...

Only a few pattern sales offered:

356688.com 7400 ($1140)- in line with other 88 ending sales of the last several weeks.
663858.com 3888- A little higher than 66 beginnings but 3858 is a better ending than most.
