Hello all,

For several months, I have been recording 6N sales from Asian auctions. I now have enough data (thousands of sales) to offer some perspective on the 6N market and general trends. Because the market is so liquid (and large), I have segmented the data into specific "pattern" types which have a large enough sample size to be meaningful.

Please note that there are other threads for showcasing your domains and discussing 6N in general terms. In this thread, I will highlight and discuss only 6N.coms sold at auction (live bids and confirmed buyers) on Asian platforms. I will use this thread to focus on specific pattern sales with short commentary. Hopefully, this will help buyers and sellers in pricing and bidding.

Please note:

1. I have not captured every sale, but am confident I have recorded "most".

2. I make no warranty as to the accuracy of the final sales price as I am relying on the auction sites and the sales reporting site Chaomi.

3. There is a lot of data and almost impossible to capture all. For perspective, the pattern I will analyze today has almost 80 recorded sales in the last 7 days. How many of this pattern were published on Namebio in the last 7 days? The answer is 0. Feel free to add sales that I may have missed or from lesser known auction sites.

4. Sales are in Chinese yuan (CNY)- Conversion guide (changes daily, so not precise):

2000 CNY- $304
2250 CNY- $342
2500 CNY- $380
2750 CNY- $418
3000 CNY- $456
3500 CNY- $532
4000 CNY- $608

Summary: Remember, this is one week. There are hundreds of data points for each triple over the last few months. This pattern bottomed in early-mid December at 1400-1600 CNY on low end. The last two weeks show increasing price.

I will analyze the next pattern in a day or two.

Update and January Top Sales

Trading is wrapping up for January, which ended with significant appreciation for "no 0,4" 6N domains. Sales average has risen to 1400 CNY+ on increased volume and higher quality inventory, especially in the "second tier" premium patterns as outlined in this thread. Top sales are from my data- there could be more that I missed.

One Chinese brother sold 30,000 6N.com in single transaction for $2.1 Million and this so called hype of 6N.com created after that sale around June 2015 . I have proof in my Google spreadsheet that I was cherry picking good pattern in April 2015 when almost more than 500,000 6N.com still available to register. But nobody knew what will happen and never happened this kind of mass registration in past ever. GoDaddy used to offer $1-$5 .com bulk registration back than. So I thought I will wait for that time. Got little busy doing other stuff and never paid enough attention in market for 6 months. I started checking Namebio in October 2015 and was shocked to see some random 6N.com were selling for $200. I thought let me check my google spreadsheet. I checked and poof everything was gone. I even made list of 7N.Com staring and ending 888 which eventually sold for $200 for long time.

But even in that time frame I was firm believer of quality pattern 6N.com and I only focused on that instead of random 6N.com which is hard to remember. I have 7-8 real good pattern and I will hold until I get some expected profit.

In 2007 nobody cared about 4L.com . I won several 4L.com for $1 even in 2010 on ebay.

So any market goes through ups and downs.

Quality remains quality . Still good quality names 6N.com selling for $Xxxx - $Xxxxx range.

This is my opinion only. Every investment involves risk. Please take your decision based on your study and assumption.

Thanks

I started this thread on 1/20/16. At that time, the average 6n domain was $167 (converted from CNY). Now it is, conservatively, $258. Of course, the five pattern sales outlined in this thread are selling for significantly more.

Here are some recent sales from Chinese auctions that provide a nice snapshot of the current market:

Some sales from 2/4-2/7 (in CNY)

999357 9200 CNY
666538 6200
666915 6000
666387 5888

918889 7200

722335 2500
522337 2600
911771 2400
911338 2700
911226 3100
911225 3400

556221 3000
939955 4300

318282 1900
289191 2300
298787 2200
929296 3000

955528 4000
977762 2900

981889 3800
128818 4000
187882 2700

The market is getting very close to its high in November, '15 and certain patterns are making new highs (particularly double pairs). In addition, the rise in 6n is starting to trickle down to good 7n patterns, which are getting more bids.

The market may pause here but 6n seem to have a good floor and good patterns have shown no significant drop throughout the last 7 months. In fact, it would not surprise me to see better number combinations as outlined in this thread approach $xxxx in the next year.

Before I list sales, I would like to clarify the reporting of sales and "average" pricing at Chaomi, as it seems there are misconceptions about what is being reported.

First, the basics: The first table of auction listings below the "summary" table have listings numbered from 1-50. Many of these are just bulk listings and not all are sold. If the domain is highlighted in green or red, the domain was sold, and that is the sale that Chaomi uses for its most recent "average" at the top of the page.

In fact, it is usually the lowest price that determines the "average". The current "average" is 1248. However, a bit earlier it was 1198 because one of the bulk listings offered by seller #102878 (all at 1198) sold. Usually, the bulk listings with the lowest price will have the most recent sale.

I only use the second table, which lists actual sales with bidding statistics. The average here is usually higher than what Chaomi reports at the top of the page.

The bulk listings are typically offered by investors who own 1000s of 6N's. Between mid-June and end of August last year, there were over 400,000 6N registered. Many of these were "good" 6N without 0,4 but "random" patterns. As we approach summer, many of these large holders are increasingly willing to drop the price on bulk listings of these domains in an effort to shed inventory and reduce renewal costs.

Pattern domains, on the other hand, were either registered before the rush or towards the beginning of the "buyout" phase that started last summer. Prices have remained steady not only because they are "rare" but also because the bulk sellers and others hold these back, selling the more ordinary domains first. These domains can go down in value as well, but so far, not nearly to the extent of "bulk" domains. In some cases, patterns have risen as bulk offers have dropped.

Lastly, what Chaomi "reports" as an "average" sale is now in exactly the same range as it was when I started this thread. I have seen some uninformed "opinions" that the 6N market has dropped 50-75%, etc. Not true AND which part of the 6N market? Markets go up and down and this is no exception. If it went straight up every week, we could all become rich simply based on predictability. Fortunately, it is much more difficult than that...

Only a few pattern sales offered:

356688.com 7400 ($1140)- in line with other 88 ending sales of the last several weeks.
663858.com 3888- A little higher than 66 beginnings but 3858 is a better ending than most.

Yeah I saw that.

That was an awful sale, one of the worst for premiums i've seen in a while. Similar 888 names have been going for $1k ish. That's the risk of no reserve auctions I guess.

The buyer got a steal, I feel bad for the seller that's for sure.

I am the buyer ;);););)

6N.com (Without 0,4)Today's price at Chaomi.cc 1028 CNY + Up 101 + 10.90%

Not even single sell is less than 1025 CNY today at Chaomi.cc for 6N.com without 0 & 4. Jump of more than 10% today. This price is for non pattern 6N.com without 0 & 4.

In Short Money is moving towards more Quality items from less Quality items. This was expected as well.

No Need to panic at all for sure who are holding Premium 6N.com.

Just an opinion to all friends. Do not sell your premium pattern 6N.com for less/cheap. Still Final decision is yours. This is just an opinion as good friend.

If I auction some 6N's on NameJet what is the best time to Start and Stop an auction?
Avoid Weekends. I believe the best every day would be a Tuesday/Wednesday. This way you are totally away from weekends for all timezones! Sometimes people come back from weekends with a lot of stuff to do, so they dont have time for domaining on Mondays. Same applies for later in the week if they want to have a long weekend. Mid of week as start and end is best for any auctioning.
Thats my experience based on 8 years ebaying :)

No not mine. A lot of you are saying it's a safe bet, so I'm just saying if you really believe that the values will rise like that then why not put your money where your mouth is?

I sure put my money where my mouth is, I bought 4,600 6n.com, and if my wife wasn't bitching at me for spending so much money I would of bought 10K+(lol)

Great job as ever OP.
Worth mentioning that 888885.com just sold in China for 200,000 RMB - approx $30,000.
As good a name as it gets in 6n and if you ask me a very good buy even at $30k.

Today's trading:

Volume remains light with "only" 244 completed sales (no 0,4) in the last three days.

Though pattern sales are few, some attractive domains have been offered.

The sale of 888885 the other day for CNY 200,000 set a new bar for chinese auctions since I have been recording sales. A stupendous domain and of such rare quality that we don't see more than few like this per year in a public transaction.

Two palindromes:

286682 3088
872278 3000

A repeating pattern:

178585 3888

Triple 1's:

711156 3166
511163 2999

*For those that carefully read the OP on interior triple repeating patterns, you will notice that sales have moved into a new price zone. Sales are consistently in the 3000 CNY range now ($459).

The power of one number

I noticed an interesting group of sales on Namebio from Namejet that highlights how important a change in one number can be:

998806 $160
998826 $1,300 (2 instead of zero)
998825 $800 (5 instead of 6)

9988 is surely a top exterior double pattern, but is 998826 really $500 better than $998825? This is the variation that can happen in auctions and, as previously mentioned, why I always like to see a meaningful sample size when assessing price. Nevertheless, this type of "exterior" pattern type increased more than any other type presented in this thread, but don't expect this level with, say, 3311xx. 9988 and 8899 are elite.

I may re-price my 848454

"84" "84" "54" is a great 6n, all has positive meaning, and way better than the so called chip of let's say a "653275, ect. Patterns is key!

Some pattern sales of the last few days. This market segment remains strong with good bidding. Domains with two "pairs", especially if one pair is exterior, continue to show robust prices. The average price of a domain without 0,4 has dropped to 1500 CNY. Also, the floor price has dropped slightly to 120 CNY ($18.35)

Auction sales from the last few days (no 0,4):

199955 8888
161611 6600
396663 3588

A few sales with 0,4 stand out:

660088.com Sold for $7803 on Godaddy just few seconds ago.

A huge sale.

Even during this "downmarket" the premiums are still doing extremely well.
The market has been flooded with low quality names dragging the overall floor down.

That will change soon when the better names start getting sold more often and the floor will move up fairly sharply I reckon.

Here's another sale from yesterday:
333998.com 1,080 USD 2016-03-14 GoDaddy

Again another great price for a good pattern.

Can't wait to see what happens when the overall floor goes up again.
Hold onto your premiums for a while IMO!

A couple more very nice sales from yesterday:

555626.com 767 USD 2016-03-19 NameJet
881221.com 599 USD 2016-03-19 GoDaddy

Godaddy has a lot of very nice 6n's coming up in the next week.
Some of the prices are just incredible:

445511.com - $1125 - 4 days left
666813.com - $1025 - 3 hours left (these are now starting to go for 4 figures at godaddy look at the increase from a similar name at godaddy below:
666312.com 766 USD 2016-02-05 GoDaddy)

925588.com - $630 - Over 6 days left
885589.com - $466 - Over 5 days left
881186.com - $316 - 6 days left

I want to do a separate section for the next ones:

885590.com - $312 - 6 days to go
990020.com - $302 - 6 days left
883350.com - $302 - 6 days left
662260.com - $302 - 6 days left

Many others already at incredible prices with a long time left. From the looks of it premium patterns with 0/4 are rising to new levels as well. I've not seen similar names at these sort of levels before.

Exciting times IMO!

The market for average domains without 0,4 and with 0,4 are going down because this represents the weakest domains that were registered last summer and early fall. Many Chinese investors registered 1000's of these and have done quite well.

Before the buyout, last June, there were about 750,000 6N available to register. By early August, that number had dropped by almost half, and then the lowest quality was done before October. The first batch of "average" domains up for mass renewal will be some late June, but mostly July and August- I would estimate 300,000 to be renewed or dropped in this time-frame. Obviously, sellers do not want to wait until the last weeks to try to sell, so they are dropping price to offload inventory. The problem is, as with other buyouts, when so many mediocre and poor domains are hitting the market in a short window, there simply aren't enough committed buyers.

Yet, they only paid $8 so even at 500 yuan, you are talking almost 10x investment.

As these inferior domains flood the market pre-renewal, the truly rare domains- those in the top 5%- are in scarce supply and are being bid up.

It has always been ironic to me that investors in numerics sem to have such a poor understanding of the math involved, which is crucial to rarity (in any collectible!). Simple concepts like 6N domains made with 3 numbers are more than 5x more rare than those made with 4 numbers. This is the same for triple repeating numbers rather than double repeating, two pair instead of one pair, etc.

Logically, should investors have ever paid $250 for an average non-pattern domain with no pairs and 5 or 6 numbers while paying $350-400 for triple repeating numbers without 0,4? Of course not! One is infinitely more rare than the other.

The best domains will hold value because they are quality domains that are rarely offered in bulk. The difference in price between truly good domains and average domains should be great, as it is in 5N domains. 6N is moving in this direction, as it should be.

Three double pairs ending in 8:
552218 4,600 37 2016-04-13 22:02
552268 4,600 54 2016-04-13 22:00
663358 4,800 56 2016-04-13 21:37

good sales for this pattern.
Hi

I noticed one more thing in last 2-3 days. Anything end with 8 going for more than 20%-30% similar pattern or non pattern.

Thanks
