6 years in the making, Google's "Universal Search" opens a new world of 'results'

A few hours ago Google introduced...

"a new “Universal Search” feature that will automatically combine search results for images, video, books, news and other queries into a single format."

"Although Universal Search will give results from a variety of media, it will also provide tabs for a user who is only interested in searching for a particular type of information. For example, a search for Bill Richardson will pull up links to websites, news, videos, blogs, and books about the U.S. governor. Users can then click on specific category tabs to narrow down the search results.

A major new feature of Universal Search will be the inclusion of video clips from YouTube and Google Video embedded directly into search results. Content from other online video sites, including Metacafe, will also appear as thumbnails that link directly to those sites."​

I've been playing with it for the last hour. The vids are'nt tied-in yet, but the "timeline" and "map" results are a very nice way to find and put data in context... with 'time & space'. As far as the vids go... I guess the critics can stop wondering how Google is going to monetize video (and video ads).

This looks pretty good. It's still buggy, but definately has potential. I think I am a "left-hand" search kind of guy. I hope that have it to where I can login and save all of my previous searches. They could potentially redefine what a HomePage really should be.

I guess we should start buying Google stock again!

Excellent news for my picture, video and various other format names!
Thank you for the update i'll be following this one closely, perhaps it will be like the froogle of old was for a time.
