$50 logo creation contest - SMECK IS THE WINNER

This logo contest is for Naptural Roots Magazine. We are the TRUE Natural Hair and Lifestyle magazine for people of color. I currently have hand drawn logo designs that need to be recreated as vector graphics that can be scaled and still retain the same quality. The winner will also have the opportunity for additional paid design work including creation of ads for placement in the magazine and other projects.

The logo should be simply black and white and can contain some artistic flair as long as the integrity of the original designs is kept in tact.

Logo Descriptions
Logo 2: A black woman entertwined with branches. She needs to have an afro and be in the same sitting position. View NRM-logo2.jpg in attachments

Logo 3: A tree with deep, strong roots that look like dreadlocs. The tree develops into an afro at the top with a female face slightly visible in the tree trunk. The tree trunk should have slight curves like a woman. View NRM-logo3.jpg in attachments.


Contest ends when the winning design is chosen.

I just want to thank everyone that has sent in a submission thus far. These are all wonderful submissions and you guys are all definitely on the right track.

That is a nice attempt, but the lines are too jagged. The lines must be clean and thin as in the drawing. The leaves must also look like leaves. The design looks lost in the thick jagged lines.

I really like your drawing. Especially the white on black. It really makes the design stand out. My concern is that it no longer looks like a tree. The tree is a very important aspect of the logo. Can I get some additional definition of the tree trunk. Also the face and the hair should not have hard lines between them. They should be a smooth transition. I would like the roots of the tree to spread out more like a real tree. In the original drawings I posted, they remind me of an octopus and not tree roots.

This is really nice. Again the lines must be clean and thin. You have definitely kept the integrity of the original intact. If we can get some definition in her face so that she doesnt look so much like an alien. Especially around the eyes and lips. Also, the bunches of leaves that are dark need to be more defined. Each leaf needs to have the clean lines so that they look like leaves

I think yours is the closest that I have seen thus far. Her eyes should look like eyes. She is distorted around the shoulders and breast. They need to look proportionate to a real woman as in the drawing. But you are definitely on the right track

Smeck:
This is much closer. Can you make the trunk of the tree thicker and look more like the drawing with the knots and wood grain look. I would also like the face and the hair to not have the line separating them. The face needs to flow directly into the hair with no separation.

I really like the curves to the tree as they give the air of femininity. I like the roots being more spread out as they make it look less octopus like and more like actual tree roots - strong. You are definitely the closest for this drawing. I hope you are working on the other as well. You are really good.

Adrian: Thank you for your submissions, but I have already decided on a winner.

:sold: Smeck: I have one additional change that was requested and then I can safely say that you have won the competition. Can you please make the trunk of the tree larger around (not longer). I love how the face is part of the top of the tree like I asked. I also love the transition to the roots, but the tree itself is a little thin. I would like it to be thicker.

And I have to say that the drawing of the girl is AWESOME!!!!!!! You got the essence of what I wanted in the first try.
