Hello,

I have a few domains that are junk but i am thinking of getting back into it. I am interested in developing, parking, selling my domains, whatever makes sense.

i am thinking about good four character.com or 3 character.net also might try to save up for a 3 character .com down the road.

i want to buy 1-2 good premium domains with possible recurring traffic revenue.

What do you suggest for a newbie like me?

where is the best place to find the best prices on domains. I have been looking at godaddy auctions but the commission seems like it will cut into both the the buyer/seller.

thanks a lot

.US domains.US domains
You can contact some people here, best way is to think of what domains you would like to own (preferable that you know something about) and buy them.

all the best.

I am biased (as are most people here), so take this suggestion with a grain of salt. But I would suggest you look at numeric domains. These domains have a variety purposes across cultures and languages, and with the increasing Chinese internet presence, demand for these domains will likely continue to grow. Plus these domains get traffic, although most of it is from China and may be hard for you to develop, but at the least you can set up a parked page in Chinese. NNNN.com's are available for $500-$600+, so consider 1 or 2 of these in a small portfolio or some cheaper numerics (NNNN.net, or other types). Good luck!

it seems like the only good ones at auction are adult and i don't have a problem buying those but i feel like if that is all i own then i will be a sleazeball so i would want identity protection which would then cost extra to regsister

I presume you are going for a medium term investment.
To be honest this is what I would do.
-Stay away from fads which every one is in. Ie LLLL.com they seem to go be like a lottery ticket unless you get them well undervalued. I also personally dont see the interest in CCC.com either. But perhaps this is me.
-I would (personally) go for Keywords with out TM that have sold(actually sold and not just reported as sold for the sake of promotion) and are developed (properly) in lesser extensions.
-Know the market you are going for.
-Know whether you want to develop or not. Bear in mind to develop something properly will take up a lot of time and money or time and skills. If you have neither time or skills it will be expensive.
Probally stay in .com unless you are happy increasing the risk of your investment for a better quality keyword ina lesser quality extension. If you go down this route make sure the keyword fits the extension.
-Take your time looking before spending your money. As there seem to be good deals which come up when you least expect it.
-Plan and research what you are going to go for.

Goodluck

In additon to the suggestions above, also take a look at actual domain sales to get an idea of what kind of names sell and how much they're worth. dnjournal.com has a good domain sales record

Thanks that was very helpful. i do have some experience with internet marketing. I did some work with BANS and ebay partner network, had did okay with click bank. I used to buy closeout domains on tdnam that were keyword targeted and old. I guess I just got sick of building links, so i was looking for domains that were more self sufficent, but i guess that is probably a pipe dream. Still the idea of getting good keyword domains is probably a good idea, just like before but my more brandable/premium ones that are resaleable, so i can get that income down the road in addition to monetization. I was really just looking for an easy way out, like buying a domain with traffic and then putting up some thin ad site or park it and viola make money then sell it later but i guess it doesn't work that way?

Of course it doesn't work that way for most people except the really lucky--007 ones or those who got into the game early enough. Monetization takes a lot of work and development these days. You can buy sites that are developed with great domain names here and there but most of those sell quickly on auction sites these days like Flippa. I sell some like that every now and then there. Good luck to you Mr. Green!

You are not going to get 3 letter .net or com with recurring revenue or traffic to make it worth the price paid. Thos are more of "collectible" type names. Granted some get developed and do ok but what you will be able to afford you are much better mining expired domain lists found here and other sites where someone else has done the grunt work taken what they wanted and then post the rest for others. Use those to develop or flip and work your way up to something premium

Thansk for the help with this one. Flippa looks pretty awesome. To me it seems like the way to make money is to be the one sellin on flippa and not the person buying

spend it all on low priced quality drops such as $100 or less per name. you will be able to get 20+ names.

$2000 is a lot of money to start, and you will most likely waste it. Do a lot of research first before you buy anything, and don't spend it all at once.
