advice 20 years old domain with no use

Hello, I just realized I own a 20 years old domain which was used for a redirection. I don't even know if it ever received any traffic. I don't use it so is there a reason or value to keep it ?

I never got any offer from Sedo on even on any other names I put on Sedo (which were not very attractive probably too) so I doubt this one generates any interest. I'll try the backlink checker. Thanks.

I did a backlink check but only found a few links from crap SEO companies pointing to this domain. Domain was not used for email neither so i guess I can drop it, right?

As indicated by others, this is impossible to assess without knowing the domain name.

I came for advice if a 20 years old domain name with no traffic has any value, whatever it means I come here for 2 options:

1. No, drop it ; or,
2. Yes, it is 20 years old and I suggest to do that instead of dropping it.

If I mention the name here, some domainer "domain name investor" will probably grab it and try to sell it back to me or do crap with it, using MX records, etc...

That said , if you said it has no value so what’s the point of anyone getting it if you drop it ?

If there is no traffic or other value to it, then simply being 20 years old does not add any value to it.

Before you let it drop, also go to DotDB (dot com) and put the word/term/whatever into there. See if there are any other extensions taken, or if it is part of other domain strings.

If so, check those out and see what is happening on them. If nothing is happening with your term, including as a domain or on Google, then there's a very high probability it has no value as a term, either.

Final check: disguise the name from search engines, like by putting spaces and s / l / a / s / h / e / s between the letters, and put it up for appraisal here. We can read it but the engines won't be able to index it well.

If you don't want to do that, then:

Final-final-final check: send it via PM to someone here you trust won't make it public or bother you with it, and ask their opinion too.

Pretty much. You can find many 20+ year old domains on GoDaddy closeouts daily.

As far as this specific domain, I have no idea if it is worth keeping or not.

This is interesting, it means that many "very" old other domains return to the public. I was starting to think there are special buyers for such old domains.

I think about 15 years ago there was a believe that aged domains gave an SEO boost (as well as renewing ahead many years). To suggest the website was an established business with plans to stick around for the long-term. But eventually Google got smarter I guess and was able to tell the difference between a site's content or something and now they say aged domains don't give a SEO boost or at least not with Google who is the bulk of search.

Also, you mentioned someone stealing your domain with MX records or something. I am not sure how someone would do that. But 75 days after the domain expires, it becomes available for purchase by anyone who tries.
