Hi Guys

I have a decent domain name I bought about 5 years ago very cheaply for around $300 in auction and intend to develop it still.
However I've been made offers over the years for it and recently 7K USD.

I don't HAVE to use this domain for my project but it is a good fit, the reason I am more reluctant to sell is that this domain was used before I bought it by a project that is very similar to my idea so it has built up over 3K links and 20 DA (before I even bought) .. it was 30DA before. Alot of links are on high profile high DA websites even though the pages are old , over 6 years.

My question is, shall I sell and use a fresh website address in which I have to start from scratch with SEO etc .. or keep and use my current domain name and get a head start?

I guess I am asking is it easy to catch up these days in terms of links and High DAs and I could use the 'sell money' for this, OR should I stick with a domain that has a lot of ground work in place?

Thanks for any suggestions.

No one, but you, knows the value of your time, the cost for you to build it back, the cost and availability of an on-par alternative domain.

You can add those up and decide. If you are serious about your project, don't start on an inferior name. Check auctions and markets and see if what you'd need to pay for the name part.

Building to DA20 or 30 is not hard, probably you can assume a cost of around $1k, about half a year delay to get there.

Simple answer - Pick one:
1. Get $7,000 now and put it your pocket or
2. Develop the site and wait for years and nothing happen.

Thanks Guys, good advice. The cost a name I like again could be 2k - 4K and then it becomes less attractive. At the same time, when would I actually start ? ... will be become a nothing project and wasted the offer. I'll take more time to think over.

My concern is with google becoming more and more restrictive and hammering down on organic SEO, are the links becoming valueless. Every platform appear to be wanting to make PPC the way forward unless you are majorly established.

Hey, I have a car and someone is offering me 5k for it. Should I sell it or should I continue driving it? Answer, please. That's pretty much what you are asking. :)

No one but you knows the answer.

If the name is known at least people here can give their opinion of whether or not it costs 7000 , 700 or 70000 - but that would be some food for thought, at least. If not - 1000 variables there that not a single person can take into consideration.

P.S. Not to sound like a complete douchebag - my two cents: I wouldn't give a rat ass about backlinks and DA numbers.

You bought for 300 and had an offer for 7k five years later and you have no idea about anything else. Where to go from there..

I have decided to sell, thanks for your advice.

As I haven't fully kept up with SEO lately and its continued change I wanted to have a quick check before I pulled the trigger and wasn't throwing a lot of time down the drain. I have a couple of projects in front of this one so I felt it good idea not to hold and wait.

Take care

A good decision IMO. I sold many domains for which I had development ideas and even plans, and the regret was gone quick.
