Any other poor souls holding names at 1and1? What an operation!

Called last week because I couldn't figure out how to bulk change name server info, to park elsewhere. You can't bulk change. Have to manually change each one.

Great.

Called today because I'm (finally) creating an excel spreadsheet with all my domain info and wanted to know how to download my info. You can't. Can't even get a text list of just the names. Have to manually type in everything.

Wonderful.

I reg'd names there because of some great deal they had a while back. Can't wait to get my names out of there.

1and1 is not suitable for bulk registration. They sell domains at low price only because they think it helps to bring more web hosting orders.

You have to really work at it to be THAT bad, I think. What keeps this place in business ???

Inexperience and lack of reasearch on the part of new customers... Never used them, never will!

Yes they advertise heavily here in the UK. I have come across many 8 page adverts that they have taken out. Also magazines like .net tend to suggest them as a registrar and host at times. Of course many inexperienced people read these magazines and think to themselves if they have such big adverts or the magazine suggests them then they must be good.

I have almost all of my names at 1and1, changing domain info is a pain, it takes forever.

I've heard transferring is even worse. I'm not registering there anymore.

You must have a UK address to become 1and1.co.uk's customer.

Ironically I was reading the latest .Net last night and they have a 5 page advert this month.

It's the same with other companies being mediocre or worse at things that aren't their focus (just like the opposite happens with GoDaddy and web hosting for example).

1and1 is primarily a web host first and a registrar (a far) second.

Problem is, 1and1 doesn't seem to be that good a web host either.

I have a few names with one to one. I am transferring them few at the time. No problems with transfer to godaddy.

Then just use 1and1.com... or 1und1.de

I used to have some domains with 1and1 but I just transferred the last 10 domains a month ago and they're still charging me. I thought I'm done dealing with them but I guess not. Even when you no longer have any domains with them for some reason they still charge you.

In short 1and1 is like a nightmare that doesn't go away.

I also had that problem when I moved all my domains away from 1&1. You have to go to another webpage and cancel your domains or they charge you for them at renewal time even though your names are no longer with them!!!
For those who have moved their domains go to- https://www.cancel.1and1.com -and cancel them so you don't get charged!

You can ask them for a refund.

1and1 Transfer in/out can really cause troubles.

If you transfer in a domain to your 1and1 instant domain account, they'll change the DNS to theirs and show their sedo ads to make money out of your domains.

If you transfer out domains, you should always go to cancel.1and1.com to cancel your domains. (do they still require fax authorization?)

I can get a refund that's for sure but dealing with customer service is enough to ruined your day.

As for fax authorization they don't do it this time but be careful.

9 months ago they no longer require you to fax it then 3 months later they want you to fax it and recently no fax is needed. So if you get used to not faxing then they end up using the fax again you're in trouble. Now they will do what they do best charge you.
