1and1 .info I got my 5 free :)

Ok I just registered my 5 free .infos this week.
Here's the details they don't tell you.

If you're not a registered client. You need CC to do so or a Paypal CC, which I used.
They withdraw $6.00 to confirm and put it back in so make sure you have $6.00. I think it took a week for them to put it back in.

Other than that you get full DNS management :)

If you have friends or family tell them! This is a great offer! I know this has been probably posted before I just felt like posting my experience with them.

Any more questions? Just reply here. If you want to know what the admin panel looks like just ask and ill take a snapshot for you too.

NP or Rep if this was helpful is always greatly appreciated.
Thanks guys.

Be prepared for the onslaught of people who feel you were foolish to deal with 1&1. They have had alot of complaints from people in the past but based on what I have read & my own almost 2 year experience with them, I think alot of the problems were user caused. I don't usually take warnings seriously about someone unless I truly see bad management from a business end.

I don't believe in paying more just to say I didn't use 1&1. Could they do somethings better? Sure every company can. My #1 request on their end is to bill immediately & not wait almost a week to have it taken from your credit, debit, etc.... but overall for the price, it offers good value imo.

I know of the opinions behind 1and1 which kind of made me hesitate for while on this offer. But I said heck. Free is free how can it hurt? And so far I am pleased. I am a web host myself and I've reffered users out to 1and1 and have had them come back completely satisfied. All except the same billing issue.

There's always a price... Nothing in life comes free.

I wouldn't touch them. They can stick their free .info's - more trouble than they're worth with that company if you ask me.

Wait until the billing period comes around. :hehe:

No matter whta happens, 1and1 deserve to die a painful and slow death. Do not get lured, do not bother to mess around with this company. Step back and stay back.

I'd appreciate it if someone could point me to a string that explains the problems with 1and1...or at least a summary of the issues.

Over the last few months, I've bought quite a few domains and have had zero problems...that I know about, but after reading M90's comment about the "billing period," I'd like to know more about what to look out for.

also, you wont be able to sell them, because there is no push or transfer for those domains :)

1and1.com aka 1 & 1 Internet Services SUCK!

Here's one of the links. Within this thread there are about a dozen other links. Do whatever you like, just don't come back here crying when you get had.

1and1 SUCKS!

This is BS as I have been able to do this with domains at 1&1.

No I am not at all. I just don't like seeing any company trashed by people based on issues that seem to be mostly user error involved. As I have said previously they have some things they can improve on especially the billing as I could see how one would get confused if they don't keep tabs on their overall balance.

However the way some make them out to be impossible to deal with is bullshit & I know it as I have never had a problem in over 2 years. I just call it like I see it compared to some who jump on a bandwagon without ever being with the company.

Exactly! And I to those who said you can't sell the .infos i don't mind :P

And what about the billing cycles? Do they charge extra if so that'd be the only thing I'd get angry about if it's a late billing cycle then i don't mind.

The problem I have with their billing is they don't do it right away. I can see how not having the purchase amount deducted immediately from your funding source could be confusing. This could result into you thinking you have more available then you truly do. However balance your stuff correctly & this wouldn't be an issue. I do wish the billing would occur instantly though.

that would be nice if bashers would do some simple search at least here on namepros, and just calculate how many unhappy customers 1 and 1 have and why....

1) They don't bill you right away.

2) Submit or Change your CC and they temporarily charge your account $5.99

3) They charge to push the domain to another user OR even within your own account (from package to package)

4) Their requirements for cancelling a domain are unecessarily vague and difficult.

5) They ask that you fax info to them (not everyone has fax) and while they do accept mail-in cancellations, you must still be sure to cancel online and in PLENTY OF TIME (we're talking MONTHS in advance).

6) No way to de-select auto-renew.

Just SOME of the reasons I suggest staying away from 1and1.com for domains. You may not have a problem with them "now", but don't come whining back here when you do. We warned you. :)

Oh, AND if by some misfortune you make a mistake or do not cancel your domain in time(and sometimes even if you HAVE cancelled), you will still be charged. I cancelled my domains online and mailed in the paperwork.. they said it din't arrive in time and "auto-renewed" my domains and charged me.. because I had cancelled the domains, I didn't pay so they locked my account with all my other domains and have attempted to bill me for the domains I no longer have access to. 'nuff said.. 1 and 1 reeks!

I would like to state that #3 is not true as I just recently pushed a domain to another 1&1 user & none of us were charged.

Then they've either changed their policy as I understood it or, like the charges for domains, you just haven't been charged "yet"... they definitely charge to push between your own account packages as I asked them specifically about this as I wanted to consolidate my account.
