I have not checked it.

although on their terms and conditions page, this is what I see...

"You agree that you are responsible for any and all fees and costs related to the registration of your domain name, and you authorize 1&1 to debit your credit card for any such fees and costs."

This seems like a risky thing ... even if they'rte giving away domains for free, one might have to provide one's credit card info ....
