13 YR Old Kills Brother Over Video Game

A 13-year-old boy fatally stabbed his brother with a steak knife after the 16-year-old refused to turn over a video game controller, authorities said.
Jahmir Ricks was charged with first-degree murder in the death of Antwan Ricks at their home outside Philadelphia. The older boy died of a single stab wound to the chest, police said, and a bent and bloody knife was recovered from the home.

Lansdowne police said the younger boy told them, "I just stabbed my brother," when they arrived at the home Sunday.

Police believe the argument started when Antwan Ricks would not turn over the game controller after losing a game to his brother. Police Chief Daniel Kortan said the rules of the house were that the person who lost had to give someone else a chance to play.

I would think you could ignore a user or post that you think might offend you, but I'm willing to go with a show of hands from those who'd rather not have me post news here. Majority wins.

I dont wish to ignore anyone and of course everyone is free to post what they wish here. I personally am just tired of checking into this part of NP and always coming across the news of murder, rape, war etc. But thats just me!

Besides this is what the break room is for. If you dont like the post, post what you didnt like or pass over. There are plenty of other happy topics for you to read up on.

We as web developers and or domainers have a tendancy to keep our heads in the business and less focused on the things out in the world. Sometimes we need such posts here to remind us of things beyond our computer.

Dave does post tragedy as well as commical to informative threads. As well as free things to politics.

We need to be aware of others and society beyond ourselves and our computers.

btw - The story is tragic, and yes worht posting to discuss social issues as murder and does playing video games cause violence?

I think my point is: if you think a post might offend you, don't click on it.

I'm not trying to depress or offend anyone. I think I post about a variety of issues, both serious and fun. I realize this is the "Break Room" but the reality of life is: these things happen.

Sometimes, something that happens in a split second can change your whole life.. I've had anger issues to deal with myself.. cost me at least two relationships when I was much younger. These days, I seem to have grown out of it for the most part but certainly affected my youth.

Well first off, this is sad.

Master of the Obvious says:
But there must have been deep issues between the brothers long before the videogame incident.
This could have been a compounded action.

I wonder what game it was.... :td:

Not sure if you meant that or not, but I'm willing to bet the same thing would've happened if both kids wanted to log in to namepros and one wouldn't let the other. Better yet, the game could've been a racecar game or a basketball game and it still would've happened. While there are plenty of things video game makers could and should do to help address the issue, something tells me there was more to this than the video game. I don't want to put ALL of the blame on the parents, but unless this was just some sort of random temporary insanity, how could they have possibly missed that the son they are raising can get so angry that he's willing to pull a knife out at age 13?

That's just sick!!! How could he had done that to his brother? Pretty lame just because of a game controller? that is not reason enough:(

Only partially.. this kid had issues either way.. if it wasn't a video game it would be because he wasn't allowed his turn with the tv remote.

keep them coming dave. I enjoy reading your posts here. This is a sad story but hey worlds not perfect.

That seems intense. I would have never guessed this could happen. Especially since this kid is 13 and killed his OWN brother. It's not like he killed a stranger. I guess this just shows that kids are quite immature in stupid.

Dave is my daily news

Also growing up with my older cousin like a brother, it was normal to throw punches at each other over a game but a knife, thats abit far
*puts his nick to shame*

I agree on that, I appreciate reading curious news posted by Dave, if anyone don`t like them no one forces him to read them.
