A content thief among us...

Hi everyone.

I just wanted to thank you all for your kind words about my article. Yes, I said MY article: "10 Commandments of Link Building"

Let me explain.

You see, the person who posted the article (ashu@webnewtons) makes a habit of copying articles, removing the author's name, and posting them in this forum as if they are his own work.

Exhibit A - You can see that I'm the rightful author of this article by viewing it at http://www.isedb.com/db/articles/1534/1/The-10-Commandments-of-Link-Building/The-10-Commandments-of-Link-Building.html. That's my smiling mug beside the article.

Exhibit B - For further proof of this deceitful tactic, just click on the guy's forum profile and check out his other posts. If you look way, way down at the bottom of the article, you'll see a subtle hyperlink labeled "source." This leads to the original article, as if that makes it okay to misrepresent yourself.

Here's the strategy. He copies articles, removes the author's name, puts a subtle link at the end, and plays the content off as his own. The result? You all shower him with praise and reputation points.

He has fooled all of you, violated copyright law, violated the rules of the forum, and misrepresented himself.

My only question is ... why is he still a forum member?

Thanks for bringing this to my attention, Brandon. If you'd like your article removed or trimmed, let me know.

I'll give Ashutosh the benefit of the doubt and assume he is unfamiliar with copyright laws on Internet content. (But a 'copyright violation warning' has been issued.) Using small quotes from an article with attribution is allowed to spur discussion, but please do not repost articles in full without having reprint rights or permission of the author.
